Thinking of putting a trim switch on my transom... It is an option on some of the bigger boats, but wasn't an option on my 185 when I bought it.

Who has one? Where is it mounted? Anyone know how it's wired in? Can you post some pics???

Thanks!

Don't have pics, but I can say it is definately useful!!

You just need a momentary double throw, spring return to center switch (waterproof) powered from the trim pump power supply and returning to the up and down solenoids.
Fitted one inside the shower mixer recess.... brilliant!

I purchased one from the Sea Ray dealer and installed it myself. Instruction were in the box. It is installed about four inches above the swim platform on the right side so it can be reached from the ground when putting the full cover on.

In my signature picture you can see mine just to the left of the shins of the boy standing on the swim platform.

I find mine very handy and use it just about every time I use the boat.

Perfect!!! Thanks for the info and links. I'm going to pick one of these up from the dealer this week and install it this weekend.

Just like the smart tabs, I should have done this 5 years ago!

Excuse the ignorance....but what would you use it for?

Why adjust the tabs when the boat isn't moving?

Maybe I am just thick in the head....(?)

It's not for the trim tabs but the I/O. For a trailerable boat you have to raise the outdrive after you load the boat. For storage the outdrive should be in the down position (to let excess water drain out). Next time you trailer the boat you have to raise the outdrive. Climbing in and out of the boat, especially with a snap on cover can be a pain. When working on the outdrive being able to raise and lower it without climbing in is also handy. Wouldn't be without one.

Got my trim switch installed today. Hardest part was picking the place to mount it up. Used a hole saw in reverse and it cut a real pretty hole in the fiberglass... no cracking of chipping.

Now I can trim the motor without getting in the boat!!!

What no pictures(Grin)

Hardest part was picking the place to mount it up.

I always thought it was cutting a hole in boat(Grin)

I have bought it but haven't installed it yet. I'll take pics and do a write up when I do. It may be this weekend.

lake ann,

Nice install. Thanks for the pics. I'm considering mounting both controllers side by side in the location where you put the stereo remote. Still not sure though. Will just have to get the parts here, mock them up and see what I like the best.

We knew you could do the job.

Pictures, as promised...

Nice job. Did you mount the Clarion stereo remote yourself as well? If so, how difficult was it to do?
