Inspired by the crazy boat prices thread, I'm wondering how many actually buy boats off the showroom?
I have only bought 2 of my boats that way, the other 6... I was actually looking used only to try and soften the depreciation hit.
I don't even want to think how much a similar to mine (320 DA) would be new.

I did (do)... My 310 was off the show room floor (literally) and see my signature for the rest of them.

I did our 320. It was an 07 I bought new in 2009. The 500? Not so much :D A guy on our dock retired last year and bought a brand new Cruisers Cantius 50. He's had more gremlins for Cruisers to deal with than a used boat!

All of our boats where bought new except the 79' 300 , the AJ was ordered and the 44 was a demo boat used for the demo days. My dad refuses to buy a boat already used by someone else, me on the other hand feel let someone else work out the bugs on a boat then Ill by it.

I prefer to get intimate with every boat I own. You can only do that by buying used, fixing it all yourself, knowing every wire connection, system, etc, cause when shit hits the fan I can fix it or at least know I not getting ripped off when I pay a guy to do it.

First to smell that new fiberglass smell. First walk on carpet, first to test all buttons and gadgets, first to overnight in that uncomfortable bed, first to use the stove or microwave, first to take a piss or dump in that head, first to loose all that F’n depreciation. It’s all part of the.... “lifestyle”

My 270 AJ and Back Cove 34 were new. The Back Cove 37 was used, but only a year old with 100 hours.

The Larson 22 fell into my lap from a relative that was getting out of boating when I was moving from sail to power.

I bought both new. My 240 I paid just over 70% of MSRP. The 270 I paid just under 65% of MSRP. On both, I asked them to add a full 6 year warranty for without changing the price as the only condition to completing the sale. It worked out ok for us.

My first two I bought new (1995 Sunbird 150 SS and 1998 Four Winns 245 Sundowner). My last two I bought used (1971 Trojan F26 and 1993 Sea Ray 200 Overnighter OB). The price of boats since the 90s has tripled, but my salary has only doubled, so I don't know if I'll ever be able to afford a new boat again.

I have done both. Bought my current boat when it was two years old w/25 hours. Stored in a covered slip in fresh water. Genny had 10 hours. Paid 60% of MSRP. That was 8 years ago. In the current market I believe I could sell it for what I paid for it. No reason to do that as it is still the perfect configuration for how I use it, and it's in Bristol condition.

Purchased 4 used and 3 new. Really was dependent on what I wanted at the time, how long it had been made, and what was on the market.

Omg. Killin time at work today, does anybody actually’work’ on a Friday, so I get on boat trader search 25 - 29 <20k(don’t judge me, it’s my size and price), you can’t believe the crap out there. Mold in cabins, headliners, cockpit upholstery, gross. Found 3 SR in 200 miles from me, ya 3, 2 of which been on market since last Aug. pickins are slim, no wonder a fine used gets top dollar.
