I don't have near the stories that you guys do, but here's my story.
I started boating (barely) as a kid - no boats in the family. I learned boating through boy scouts and explorer camps. I joined the Navy after a 2 year attempt at an Electrical Engineering degree at University of Kentucky (Go CATS!). I later redeemed myself by earning my B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute while I was on shore duty in upstate NY. During my 8 years and 1 week in Uncle Sam's Canoe Club (operating nuclear reactors on land and in submarines - USS Maryland [SSBN-738]), I often rented the speedboat from MWR and took it to Lake George with friends. After leaving the Nuclear Navy, I joined the civilian nuclear industry operating bigger nuclear reactors for electricity production in the midwest. The admiral and I later moved to eastern TN to be closer to the clones' grandparents. I now work for an "alphabet soup" company operating their nuclear reactors - I tell everybody I am Homer Simpson's boss. We bought our first boat - the 210 Select and loved it. After a few years with it, we traded up to the 290 Sundancer so that we could overnight with the kids.

If you need an Electrical Engineer....my son is graduating from Penn State Behrend Dec 16th! His is interested in Power Generation and design and will move anywhere south. His best interview may take him to Alabama. We are so proud and he's a clean cut 22 year old. He will go in the Service if needed and swims daily (NCAA Div III record setter), Mike.

Started boating when I was 12 and had a 10' aluminum boat with a 4HP mercury. That was 33 years ago. You do the math for my age! Had various boats growing up and my SeaRay, though too small for us, is certainly the best I've had!

I'm a Systems Development and Project Manager (VP) in IT for a large Japanese Bank for the last 15 years. I'm not a "techie/geek" as I have a BS in Mgmt. and a MBA -- go figure.

I currently work in Jersey City, NJ even though I live and commute from Long Island every day thanks to 9/11 (I worked in 2 WTC). http://halfhollowhills.patch.com/articles/changed-by-911-lt-rocco-pasquarello. . Hence the name of the boat...

Hate the commute, but it pays the mortgage and I'm lucky to have a solid job in these tough times. I worked for a large mortgage bank for 8 years prior to that when I graduated with my BS.

Anyone have any leads in NYC or on Long Island?

Volunteer Firefighter and Medic since 1984 (Ex-Captain Heavy Rescue Co). Married with 2 daughters and 2 chocolate labs.

I started boat owning about 10 years ago but have been on or near the water in other peoples boats for years. I work in I.T. My title is Network Administrator but I do pretty much everything involving I.T. infrastructure. A while back NBC made a documentary on my job.

Started boating when my oldest son was 18 months old. He had bad asmtha and we needed to stay close to a hospital. The lake was close :). That has been 28 years and too many boats to count. My son wanted to name this Sea Ray Last One II.

I am work for the guys I sold my company to as the acting CMO.

I own & operate a small electrical contracting business here in SJ. Married 26 years, 2 children in university as we speak, 3 this time next year. Went thru the hardtop camper phase when the kids were small, stepped up to a 31' trailer for a few years. At a certain age they don't want to go camping with mummy & daddy anymore. We kept a jet-ski at the trailer & had a lot of fun with it.
Vacations can be difficult to schedule dead centre of a short construction season & we looked into buying a used boat this year. We weren't even sure we would like it.
Gives us a chance to get out on Fri. afternoons, the weekends & some nice evenings. Looks like we're hooked. Probably look at another 2 years with this boat & then move up to something a bit larger. The new Sundecks are very attractive +/- 28'.

I knew you were the infamous Nick Burns, the computer guru!

To pay the bills, I is a pile-it for a major airline that used to paint their airplanes to look like a corn dog .
I live in the PacNW and have a beautiful wife of 18 years and two children 10 and 8. We purchased our first boat last Christmas and we are all having a blast. We logged over 80 hours on the engine so far this year. That's not too bad for the short summers up here. I feel that I (we) are hopelessly addicted to boating now and this is just the start for us.

My game is residential property development, project management. Waiting for the expected landslide of rebuilds following the series of disastrous earthquakes we have had in our city ( Christchurch NZ) during the past 12 months or so. The boat is 5 hours away so hopefully safe. Started life as a jetboater 20+ years ago and graduated thru a 240 BR to the 450 DA. My other interests in life include cars...E55 AMG.... and FITASC (sporting Clays). Married for 28 years with 3 sons, (2 electricians and a student.) Love sneaking away to the boat to carry out those little projects which never end.

I earn my keep as a government wonk (don't hold it against me), but who I am is a husband, marathoner, triathlete, skier, amateur photag, animal lover, home brewer, foodie, travel nut, friend, and boater.

I spent my younger days tooling around in lasers, sunfishes, and the like. Now, the admiral and I have just finished our first season on the 260.

Just turned 53 I have a great wife Susan and two great boys or men 26 & 28. I'm a union electrician by trade, but for the last 25 years I've been in the electrical testing field, for utilities and buildings. Great job but crazy hours. I have been boating all my life in the Falmouth Cape Cod area. My first boat was a 15' Chrysler Courier, Then a 21' Sea Ray Seville "SeaNile", and now a 30' Sea Ray Sundancer "SeaNile II". Most weekends in the summa you can find me at Oak Bluffs. Look for me, we can raft-up and have a cold one or two.

Well, I have been boating 10 years. Bought the 1988 270DA then showed the pics to my family and brother. Brother said I didn't know anything about boating. He was correct. First summer lost an engine and rebuild it with the help from many of the marina members. They helped b/c I didn't know what to do and I only had the use of one arm. Shoulder surgery. Bought the Seadoo Jet boat and now the 400EC and love everyday of every minute on them.
Grew up in upstate NY on a farm (600 acres). Farmed, fished, hunted you name it did it but didn't boat. First time on a boat 1972 with my BIL. vomited all day. Joined the Army in 1972 as enlisted. Officers Candidate School 1980 and retirement in 1992. Wanted to work for the government after retiring but no open positions here at APG, Md. GM'd it for a few years. Ran a mortgage, investment and insurance company for a few years. Opened a Consulting company for Logistics for 5 years or so and then retired for 7 years and did nothing but boat and play golf at the country club. Worked on the 2010 CENSUS for two years and now work as a contractor to the government. Two sons both married one granddaughter and one on the way. Oldest son is a golf pro and owns a franchise called Golf Etc and the other is a bank manager. I am blessed as I love both of the things they do. Love to play golf and really enjoy having money. LOL

I work for Duke Energy in Nuclear Power Generation, as a maintenance specialist with AOV/I&C designation. Just so happens tommorrow morning I get to enter the containment building under full power, in close proximity of the reactor core to perform an inspection. Lucky me. haha

I've been boating all my life, but claim 30+ years.

Hopper - I'm an SRO at Watts Bar. What are you going in to look at?

Hello Matthew, I always wanted to see Watts Bar. I hear the lake is beautiful.

We are a ice condenser plant and having issues with our 1B fan unit. Containment temps are trending higher, and we suspect the cooling system for 1B fu, is running backwards due to a valve not operating correctly. We went in to do some troubleshooting to either prove or disprove our suspicions. There is no concern at this time, but when the weather turns back warmer in the spring, it could become an issue.
This valve is in a "window" that allows shine from the inner reactor vessel to show through this window. We were in a 30 to 3000mr field.

Being proactive, verses reactive is a Duke Energy core value, and as you probably know, "we" strive only for the best!

As for the valve, it's still speculation, but we will have to figure out a plan to do some maintenance on it in the near future probably at reduced power.
The crew that went in did an outstanding job for the task assigned, and we consider it successful. Now we just have to pour over the data and come up with a solid plan of action.

I work as an area sales manager for a food processing equipment company.

This is my first boat, so I guess less than1 year for me. I don't do anything small, I guess.

My family had a series of run down old half functional lakeboats, pontoon boats, paddleboats, canoes, bowriders etc etc etc. I grew up summers on a small lake in massachusetts and spent a lot of time just working up a suntan pulling kibbie out by the dozen and wishing my grandparents would get something with a reliable motor one of these days. We paddled more than motored in those days.

Later on an uncle had a 480DB and a 460DA down in Florida, both gorgeous, and really gave me a bug for something to take out off the LA coast. We enjoyed our first half season and lookin forward to a full one next year.

I am a pot bellied pig broker. I have well trained pot belly pigs for attack/guard security and also for family pets. Why have a guard dog that just bites when you can have a guard pig that will snap a burglar's leg bone in one bite and be as loyal as your average dog. They are all house broken and eat no more than a dog. We have christmas deals going on NOW, you can reserve a pig for the summer season, they love to be on boats. they prefer 400DA or larger.Mind you that these are guard pigs and are great with kids. DO NOT EVER MENTION PIG ROAST OR EVER CALL THEM PORK CHOP, they are attack words that they have been trained to respond to. If you need any more info....WWW.guardpigs.com
