Am looking at the 660, but am open to others. Does the 660 do water as well as land?

Want to be able to take from boat to car etc.

276C is very common and used by members on this board. I have one and really like it. I have the auto kit as well. It has come down in price since I bought it. Check pricegrabber.com although I bought mine through "Worst"marine.

Check the Garmin site to be sure, but I think the inland waterway version is 396 and coastal charts is 478....both have built in hiway and nav charts.

I'll second the 276C  One thing I'm not sure about the new system that come with map on them is can you still do your planning on the PC and download the route to the unit or do you have to do it all on the unit. Nice to be able to do it on the pc and view it on Google earth

Chuck1 how do you do that? My Mapsource has no detail and I cannot transfer the detailed maps to it. Only tracks.

What version are you using? I've got ver 6.12.2.

As for maps I've got
US Rec. Lakes with fishing Hot Spot East Ver5 (Inland waters & Rivers)
BlueChart Americas V8.0 (Coastal Waters)
BlueChart Americas V8.0 Tides & Marine Services
City Select North America V7 (Land Road Maps)

With these maps I can layout my routes (land or water) then transfer them to my 276c.

I'll also save the files then upload my tracks back to them after. Neat to be able to view the tracks in Google Earth.

I've also found the CD version of the maps have more details then the chip versions.
