Where to source new Dometic ac unit?

So he ended up going with he Citimarine CTM CT-16. It sure looks like an exact clone of the Dometic ECD 16K. Doing install next week. Gotta remove an end table first to get access. Its a Carver 396 aft cabin.

Completed the install of the Citimarine unit. Sure seems like an exact clone of the Dometic ECD. They even call their blower a “turbo”. Quality seems same as others. Only issue was with one drain plug nipple. There are two and they give you a plug if you don’t use both. The nipple is threaded and glued onto a hole in the composite pan. The nipple snapped off along its glue line when I tightened the plug. Had to glue it back on. Also the existing 20 year old passport controller was not compatible. Had to buy a new controller as well.

Installed a CTM Marine unit earlier this year. It's been great. Following the installation video, I was able to install it in a little under an hour without much difficulty. Hooked right up to the SMX keypad from the previous units. It's done its job cooling.

Quieter than the Dometic DTU I swapped out, which I like.

Men, I need to replace my forward stateroom cruiseair 7k AC, asap. A year later, how do you guys like the citimarine ac’s?

I'm in the same boat...

Need a new 16k unit for the main salon. Seems like I have 3 options.

Dometic DTG16 with optional sound cover and shipping $3000. Made in USA 2 year warranty That's 50% more than the Citimarine

Marinaire 16k comes with new thermostat/display ,remote. Cons...1 year warranty, made in China

Citimarine CTM CT-16 Titanium coil, compatible with existing SMX II controller (upgradable to newer touch screen) 2 year warranty. $2089, free shipping. Touch screen with Wi-Fi to control on/off boat upgrade $300.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Citimarine unit. But like Dani Lu, would love some real world feedback.

Happy with the MarinAire here a year later, although I should have gone with the 11k vs 14k to replace my 12k CruisAir. These new units are very efficient...

Why? What's wrong with a bit more cooling?

Edit: Just realized you are in Indiana, perhaps you don't need as much cooling capacity as we do in the South. It's tough to cool a boat when the water temp is in the mid to high 80's and the air temp is in the mid to high 90's.

Years ago I replaced the factory 6k CruisAir on my 26' solid blue hulled cruiser (which I ironically bought off Lake Guntersville where you are), with a 8k Dometic, as it wasn't keeping the cabin cool enough. On my current 37', when the 12k CruisAir bit the dust last year I went with the 14k MarinAire over the 11k....just to be safe.

Turned on the heat last weekend and the humidity in the boat was insane within a few minutes of it kicking on (thankfully it warmed it up more than enough)....and a few times last summer/fall we noticed it would get plenty cold but not always pull out all the humidity in the air...

I'll likely either swap it for the 11k or like a friend just suggested, maybe route a line to the cockpit to burn off some of it's excess capacity....

If you oversize the unit, it will cool the air before it dehumidifies the air and you'll be cool, but clammy. Of course if you undersize the unit, it wont get cool enough! Its definitely a balancing act.

When I replace my 8k front unit, I'm going with a 6k BTU unit as the 8k gets plenty cool, but doesn't dehumidify as well as I would like. The reality is the 6k will just run a bit longer to accomplish the same thing. We use it mostly at night, so not a huge heat load.

Just like for your home having too much capacity will cause the ac to run for shorter periods and not remove the humidity from air. Tricky to properly size a marine ac unit but by talking to the manufacturer they usually have a formula that should be used. Myself I have a 16k and a 9k. I rarely run them both as I prefer to have them run for longer periods in order to remove the humidity more efficiently. If i were to replace either or both units I would lean toward Flagship Marine in Florida. They are made in the US, have a good warranty but what I really like is the electric heat option that avoids having the compressor run during the heat cycle. It also allows you run the heat off shore power when the boat is out of the water.

Thanks. I knew that answer, just wasn't thinking clearly. I was focused on my cockpit cooling units which could use a bit more capacity.

I just ordered a Citimarine 16k BTU with the touchscreen Wi-Fi enabled controller and required connection cable. Citimarine threw in a cover plate, big spenders! All in $2400 delivered.

Edit: Fred Ex shipping was free and supposed to arrive Thursday, so 2 day shipping Florida to Atlanta. Hopefully FE doesn’t flake and push it a day.

The deciding factor was the Citimarine unit is made in the USA vs China and a extra years warranty and the new touch screen allows programming a schedule while away from the boat and remote turn on.

It was a tough decision, and I think both have pros and cons. I like that the Marinaire had a sound sheild and was a little bit cheaper $2200, and if noise was an issue, that might have swayed me that way.

Ill update once I get it in.

Looking forward to the full install thread. My salon unit is getting a bit noisy but still works great. Part of me wants to replace it proactively. If I do that I know my fridge will take a $hit within one week of installing the new AC unit, however :)

That touchscreen should be nice and it looks to be a smaller unit than the MarinAire (who increased their prices by a few hundred since last year).
