I need some help determining where to mount my Magma grill (rectangle). I've seen several options and have narrowed it down to the pedestal mount on the swim platform or the flush socket mount directly behind my rear seat. I can't decide and was hoping Sea Ray nation could sell me on one or the other. Thanks fellas.

Go with the swim platform mount to get food drippings as far from upholstery etc. as possible.

I just mounted a pedestal mount for my Magma Newport grill on the swim platform of my '05 270 SUNDECK about a month ago. These model boats have a very thick swim platform because it is integrated into the hull. Using regular nuts and bolts to secure the base to the swim platform was not an option because you don't have access to the bottom. What I used was something called "well nuts". They are rubber anchors that expand or spread out as you tighten the screws causing a water tight seal. So far, seams to be a strong, secure attachment. I mounted the base inside the swim platform ladder compartment so when I'm not using the grill, you can not see the base. It's hidden by the hatch for the ladder.
Someone else here on the forum did a similar install, but he had a thin swim platform on a different boat and was able to go all the way through with nuts and bolts.

kjI have my Magma grill on a pedestal mounted to the port side if the swim platform (opposite from my ladder). For me it was the best place.

Pedestal mount works great for us.

i use a Magma grill mount that goes into a fishing rod holder...i have fishing rod holders on the sides and rear of the cockpit so i can use either one of these rod holders i choose to mount the grill...the mount tube slides into the rod holder and you can expand the tube diameter to lock the mount in place so the grill does not move....the top of the mount that attaches to the gril is a swivel so the grill can be positioned at any angle to offset the angle of the boat as it sits in the water and then the mount can be locked in place....the grill hangs over the side of the boat when installed...it is completely out of the way and easy to reach when its time to flip the burgers....my grill does not usually drip any grease while cooking but i do place an old towel under the grill over the side of the boat just in case a drop or two of grease does drip from the grill....the mount folds fairly flat against the grill when not in use so i leave the mount attached to the grill all the time....the grill and mount fit nicely in the storage bag for my grill that i got from Magma....the storage bag also has plenty of room for extra propane cylinders and cooking utensils and makes carrying the grill easy...

I mount my Magma facing aft, to the horizontal grab rail on the transom. Magma makes a clamp kit that works well after making some minor modifications. The threaded levers they supply to tighten the clamp wont work, too large. I replaced the lever with a SS nut. Works fine. The thing that I like about it being mounted there is that I can stand on the swim platform and cook EZ cleanup and after it's cooled ill cover it and travel back to the slip with it in place, then remove the clamp and place it in the dock box. It never gets near the carpeting or upholstery.

All the cool people put it under the swim ladder cover.

Fishing rod holder. Installed a couple of holders myself, one on port and starboard. Works fine for me.

Man, you guys are selling the swim platform hard. I talked myself into using the flush mount socket on the starboard side near the entrance so that the grill was easier to use (meaning higher) and out of the way. We really like what the big swim platform has to offer and the family always seem to gravitate towards it (laying, jumping, etc.). Plus, under the hidden ladder reduces anyone using it. On the port side is a little too close to the fuel tank, although, only an irresponsible person would allow that to cause a problem, still. :smt021

Agree - on the 290 sundeck I used the flush mount in 2 places (1) on the starbord side rear and (1) up front. Provides flexibility depending if on beach or anchor and keeps hot grill away from kids swimming and using platform.

I thought about the swim platform idea but my platform cover is located just aft of the companion way to the cockpit. The traffic pattern would be all wrong.

Well, here's what decided to do. I'll be cooking burgers for memorial day weekend if anyone is interested.....

Shane, is that mounted in the flag pole holder? Which mount did you use?

My wife just gave me a Magma ChefsMate grill from Christmas :smt038 , and I think that's what I want to do.

I think I've heard of people using the flag pole holder - not sure if it works with Magma's fishing rod holder mount?

I have the ped mount on my 340 DA, but I would not do the same on my 190 SD because it is too small... I don't use the grill on our little boat, but it I wanted to, I might try to use forward table mounting socket. The swim platform has to much trafic on small sundeck to cook there... The bow is usually empty when we anchor, so that might also be an option for you. I have not tried it, but I think my pedestal mounting pole woul fit inside of my table mounting pole...
