Gents,

I just got 4 new tower speakers for my boat. I got 4 Polk Audio P651's. I want to power them to the full RMS Watts of 60 a speaker. Anywyas I will need to mount an amp. I was thinking under the power riders seat on the port side. Any suggetsions?

Mine is mounted under the starboard side helm. A 4x60w amp isn't very large... there are countless places you could mount it

That is all relative. A good 4x60 amp may be MASSIVE.

I would have to disagree... to an extent. A cheap, inefficient and very low signal to noise amp could be fairly small in comparison to a high quality, high efficiency amp. But in the 4x60 range, there is absolutely no reason for it to be MASSIVE. Technology today allows higher efficiency in a smaller package. I'd go so far as to say if the amp is MASSIVE, it could very well be junk, using inferior electronics which take up much more space and generate much more heat, and require a disproportionate amount of power for the out-put... all to just get close to the quality of new technology. We are talking only 240w RMS...

which towerspeakers did you get? We are about to do my boat at my shop in the next week or so. What is the polk p651?

The guy you talked to there does part time work for me at my place. We were going over what we were doing to my boat and he brought you up...LOL

Have a look at the Kicker MX350.4; it has 4 channels with 60w RMS at 4ohm. Measures 13.5"L x 10"W x 2.375"H. Plus it's all water resistant. 98db signal to noise ratio.

JL has a 4-channel that is very close in dimensions and puts out 80w RMS at 4ohm/ch and has a 104 signal to noise ratio (not that the human ear can really tell the difference between 98 and 104).

Clarion has a 4-channel, a couple inches longer, 90W RMS/ch; 97 S/N ratio.

That at least gives you an idea of the size you're looking at; in that power range, they all run pretty close in size; I imagine the Kicker will be the cheapest. JL likely have the best sound of the three, but also the most expensive. Anyway, just remember to avoid mounting the amp upside down!
