I want to put a U.S. Ensign on my boat but I'm not sure where to mount it. I was thinking of using a flush mount socket centered on the swim platform but I don't know if that would look right. Where would you mount a flag on this boat? (Disclaimer: The picture isn't of my boat. I didn't have a picture of mine so I borrowed one from another post)

Just go with one of the clamp-on units that will clamp on to your rear rail. They are clean and look good. You can remove it when skiing or putting you cover on. Plus you do not have to drill.

This is what I would want, but the engine hatch cover doesn't allow it. Has anyone done any custom mounting? Maybe something that can be attached and removed from the ski eye?

I don't think you will find anything small enough to clamp to the tow eye.

You may want to check out the original swiveler. They have rail mounts but also offer a flush mount that does not take up much real estate.

I just received one I had ordered for the bow rail to fly a burgee. The quality is above that of any other flagpole I have seen. It is pricey but well worth the money IMO. It has been recommended by many on CSR.

I just got a telescopic flagpole and flag that mounts in the stern light base just like the stern light does. It seems pretty solid in there although I haven't run with it in yet. I got it on another boating forum site that has an online store. It is made by Seasense.

I just seen that yesterday on bassproshop.com i think i'm going to get me one. we have a bass pro shop here in california near my house

I put my flag on the stern light pole.
You already have the light pole.... Just use it.
I have done this for years with no problem.
It is quick and easy to install/remove at the ramp.

How do you make the flag stay at the top of the stern light pole?

I bought an Original Swiveler and mounted it to the handle on my transom locker. I've gotten a lot of compliments on it and when I upgrade to the next boat, It's coming with me!

The flag is 20x30, and since I bought the flag at the same time as the pole and mount, they attached the flag for me. Take a look at http://www.originalswiveler.com/. The pole is solid stainless and their flag attachments swivel (thus the name) around the pole so the flag never gets wrapped around the pole. I'm very happy with it.

I bought a Perko replacement light pole that fits in my stern light socket, cut it to size, put a black plastic ball on the top end of it, and put black Charlevoix flag clips by Taylor Made on it to hold the flag. It looks and works great. The flag can be removed from the pole easily, the clips can be moved up or down to adjust for different flags, and there's no need to install any new hardware on the boat.
