The family and I are heading to Philly for a long weekend. I'm towing the 240 with us to use on the Delaware. Looking for any suggestions on where or what might be fun to do on the water.

Unfortunately, Philly is not really a boating friendly town with very little to do on the river. I wouldn't bother taking a boat there. Save that for the jersey shore, a lake further in PA or down in the Baltimore/Annapolis area.. Just my .02.

u can launch out of neshaminy state park (street road exit on 95)
there a few places around dredge harbor, and bordentown you can park, you can go far north and dock in at trenton for the trenton thunder games. and I thin maybe dockage at dave and busters in philly. you can bizz penns landing. but not much else there

Agree Philly not a boat destination. If you go to Philly leave the boat home and do all the stuff Philly has to offer. If boating is your goal come to the Chesapeake.

What is it you are looking to do on the water? Are you going to stay on the boat? I would launch as close to the city as possible, and if you are going to dock, the nicest and best equipped marina in the area is the Philadelphia Marine Center. It has visiting slips and is convenient to anything you might want to do in or around the city, whether on land or on the two rivers. At the center of the marina is a pub called Morgan's Pier, which is a bit rowdy and young, and they play the music too loudly, but it can be fun depending on what you're looking for. The city itself is fascinating to visit from the vantage points of the two rivers, including such things as the Art Museum, the naval yard, Penn's Landing, the USS New Jersey and a number of other historic naval vessels moored around there. There are plenty of great places to anchor and swim, ski, or whatever. The rivers are fresh water and usually pretty clear, unless there has been a recent storm. You can run all the way down to the C&D Canal or all the way up to Trenton, about 1.5-2 hours in either direction. Heading down the Delaware, a few miles down from center city there is an island and also an enclosed anchorage where numerous boats anchor out, alone and in raft-ups, for entire weekends. Heading up the Delaware, the river becomes wide and has beaches and beautiful homes on both sides, and a century-old boat house and sailing club where families have boated for generations. Many people have homes on the Delaware with docks, and the river is filled with boats, skiiers, PWC, and kayaks on weekends. Contrary to popular belief, the Delaware River in the Philadelphia area is a wonderful place to boat. Feel free to PM me if you want some more specifics.

Thanks for all the posts, but I'm not leaving the boat at home. Lawndoctor I tried to PM you but your mail box is full. Thanks for your help, I figured there must be someone on here that knows what there is to do in the area.

I agree with lawndoc, I used to boat on the Rancocas Creek out to the Delaware and north to Trenton. Where the Rancocas meets the Delaware there is a beach to hang on for awhile before going further north. And there are several small inlets to discover, some with restaurant/bars right on the water. I used to go right up to the Trenton Thunder stadium during games, look in the water for baseballs! That's telling you that it gets too shallow any further north of there. A nice ride!

Mitch, can I follow the river down to the bay? If not, where would you suggest I drop her in to see the beautiful Chesapeake Bay.

Chesapeake - There really are many areas to launch. Both Chesapeake City and Havre de Grace are very nice. Before HDG is Port Deposit and Perryville and up by CC is North East. They are all good and all have things to do. CC you will be in the C&D Canal. HDG, PD and Perryville you will be right on the channel of the Bay. Click on the link and drag the map around. Hope this helps.
