I have a 2004 340 and the smartcaft display is almost unreadable. where to get it replaced or repaired. any generic brands that can be used?

Assuming you have the monochrome display, AKA System View. These are out of production. You can try eBay, and companies like Flounder Pounder (FPMarine.com) and Great Lakes Skipper that buy new, old stock. The parts forum on THT is also a good source. Livorsi also at one time had a matching display as well.

You can upgrade to the Vessel View color display, this may require some modification to your dash, and you will need the Vessel View harness cable. I seem to recall reading that a new Vessel View is going to be introduced shortly.

It is possible to port engine data to a MFD via the Merc Monitor device. However, the display that you have is what is considered a system device, i.e. it drives less sophisticated devices (Link Devices). Link devices are the gauges like fuel, oil pressure, engine temp etc. There are two versions of speedometer and tachometer. These come in both System and Link versions. Where this is all going is that if you take out your old display and go with a generic MFD, and there are no other System Level devices (speed or tach), you will lose the other gauges functionality.

I have a SmartCraft product manual that will help you understand how this stuff is rigged. If you want I can send it to you, just PM me with an email address.

Go with the Vessel View kit I changed mine out a wile back and really like it. Give your dealer all the info from your boat and engines he will be able to fine out correct p/n for kit. I sold my old system on this sight. somewhere on here are the complete instructions how to change it out on a 340

Hold your horses on VV. New models are arriving soon (VV4 and VV7). Then you can decide if you want an old VesselView from someone who is upgrading :) or you want to put in a new model. But the "old" VV will be heavily discounted once people start to replace the old ones.

i am new to sea ray. I am an ex go fast boater that on a steep learning curve. what is vessel view?

VesselView is the advanced "engine display" for smartcraft engines. Current model has a 3.8" or thereabouts screen - where you can see all kinds of stats for the engines - just like SystemView - just better. :) - but the current "old" generation VesselView is quite slow when changing screens and has some limitations - like only being able to see total fuel flow - and not fuel flow pr. engine.

The new VesselVew 4 - I think is the straight over replacement for the old VesselView. The VesselView 7 combines a chart plotter (Simrad NSS7) with VesselView functions - so a complete touch screen advanced engine info display - with almost same features as Simrad NSS7.
