:smt100 I have been looking as I want to perform a firmware upgrade for my RL80CRC HSB2 system

RayMarine recommends using 32MB to 512MB. Larger cards will probably not work.

The trick is locating a blank card. MY firmware is currently version 2.09 and the latest update is 4.29.

Where can I locate a blank C-Map NT+ card?

Thanks

Raymarine recommends that CF memory cards be checked using Raymarine's Compact Flash Compatibility Tool which may be downloaded from the hyperlink found in FAQ 1120 - Formatting CF Cards for use with A60/A65, C-Series Classic, or E-Series Classic displays. Any CF memory card, regardless of manufacturer or memory capacity, should be checked with this tool. Raymarine has recently identified that its Compact Flash Compatibility Tool may return a false indication of compatibility when used in conjunction with CF memory cards having a memory capacity greater than 1GB. As such, Raymarine recommends use of SanDisk brand CF memory cards having a capacity of between 32MB and 256MB with these displays.

Check out this link for PriceWatch. This is the first place that I check when buying any computer related hardware. Shows me what ball park prices should be in.

Looks like you should be able to get a card and a reader for less than $20.

When you buy the CMAP NT+ reader, you will have to still order the blank card from C-Map as it was not included when I bought my reader.

Just contact Jeppsen and go for it.

When I bought my boat, I spent $200 on the cartridge for the chartplotter. Is there an easy way to copy the data to another NT+ card? I'm not worried about it crapping out near as much as I am that it will grow legs and walk away.

Yes, I could have the discipline to insert/remove the cartridge every time I fire the boat up, but that is not really practical and could lead to wearing out the edge connectors on the plotter or the card.

Let me post a correction

I got off on a wrong tangent and some clarification is needed concerning upgrading the software.

I have a RL80CRC hsb2 + and it is not the same as the newer Raymarine C80 Chart Plotters.

The newer models will use a Compact Flash, the older RL80CRC HSB2 + and equivalent models will not.

THEY will only accept the C-Map NT+ type CF chips and you cannot obtain them. Jeppesen Marine will sell you charts on Their 10 meg C-Map NT + CF cards, but will only allow you to purchase a 128K (Note K for kilo, and this will hold about 1,000 files with assorted way points) card to use with the PCPlanner CF progarm and CF card reader. According to the people at Jeppesen Marine, THEY manufacture the cards for their use and WILL NOT sale you a blank. From what I have discovered it is all probably just as well.

Read the text inside the quotes for what is needed to upgrade your firmware fro the RL8-CRC HSB2 +. The electronic shop I use here at the marina is Raymarine authorized and at the moment they tell me they can do a firm ware upgrade for $50.00.

I will let you know what happens, as they say they will upgrade next week

The first version of software released for hsb2 Pathfinder PLUS Series Displays (ex. RL80CRC+) was v2.09. Unlike Raymarine's currently manufactured products, Pathfinder Display software may only be updated using a pre-programmed memory card which has been ordered from Raymarine's Parts Line (603.881.5200 x8865; orderdesk@raymarine.com). The part number for the memory card to update the RL80CRC+ is E55045.

When did 4.29 release and what fixes did they put in it?
Do you have a pointer to the release? I looked of Raymarine website and they still list 4.11 as the latest version.

I currently have 4.11 and depending on what they fixed I'd be interested in upgrading, especially if they changed some of the defaults.

If I recall correctly, when I had my C70 rebooting periodicully, I did firmware upgrade. As you said it required small capacity CF card, which are hard to find in stores. So, I simply got one from ebay for few bucks and all worked fine. I think similar issue is when you want to backup your chart data on to the CF card. So, I have two older CF cards that I use one for backups and other for firmware upgrade.

A number of years ago I did a firmware upgrade on my R 80 CRC I purchased the upgradw on a c-map chip from Raymarine. With that single chip I updated both of my R 80 CRC's as well as the two 631 chartplotters (I have an upper and lower helm station.) Will Raymarine not sell you the up grade on a chip?

As an aside, if you register at Raymarine and do the same search procedures as listed below, but put in "tutorials" they have a pretty good free tutorial on using the;

In answer to Mr. Salt comments as he is correct, but it still requires a C-MAP NT Chip, which apprently can only be purchased from Raymarine - read my previous comments above, post #5
