I just recentally got my 320 sundancer, I have a year round slip on the Chicago river in downtown Chicago at marina city. I was wondering if I wanted to cruise for the winter months, where is a fun place to go by boat where one can spend winter without worrying about ice and that isn't too far from Chicago?

You must have great on board heating system to keep your pipes from freezing in this area.

If you are going to keep the boat in the marina in water you have to winterize it including the engine, but you can keep it in water since the marina has a bubbler system.

"worrying about ice and that isn't too far from Chicago?" I think you might want to define "too far". By my definition, there is no "near" place close to Chicago that you don't have to worry about ice.

When I boated in North Mississippi on the Tenn-Tom, we had several boats per year pass through from Chicago going South to the coast. They would pass South in October, and then again North in April going home. Also boats from Detroit, Nashville, St. Louis, etc. Some piloted by owners, some by hired Captains.

You mean they run them bubblers all winter or just to extend the season a little?

Harborside Marina in Wilmington IL where I was last year ran bubblers all winter for boats that remained in the water.
