Does anyone have any links or know where one might obtain this item? Mercury Smartcraft SC5000

Or was this item replaced by something else? The 2002, 8.1s engines come equipped with SmartCraft, but finding a display system is proving to be not so easy

Supposedly Mercury has their own interface, which is not Seatalk or NEMA. The new systems now supposedly have NEMA 2000 (After 2007)

Thanks

I am thinking of maybe adding in some type of Chartplotter device from NorthStar, perhaps a NorthStar 657 unit

I could always just leave it set up as engine monitoring, since I have the RL80 CRC and the Ray marine A50D.

I could go with their similar model which has the built in GPS and use that as a redundant GPS back up system

I know when installing the A50D and the internal GPS was still active, (Before the125 GPS was installed) it picked up a signal in just a couple of minutes under the tin roof.

Sheesh, a set standard woud sure be nice

I bought mine on ebay a few years ago....worked great...

I was in Boaters World in Wilmington, NC last w/e. The manager said he had just been to a boat show and there are folks making boxes to convert the Smart Craft signal to NMEA 2000. I am looking into it now. I would prefer a Lowrance over a Northstar, but will go with the Northstar if I have to.

I hope you are right. I know I have been searching online. There is just not much information available. Granted I do not have a new boat, but as many boats that are out there and with all of the new chart plotters etc. which have come available with options for engine variable displays, it would seem a possible market nicje' for someone.

I am far from wealthy, but with the digiatal age, Smartcraft already there on many of the older engines, why not an interface so one can have a back up to their analog gauges.

I will keep looking fo rinformation and links

I just hate the idea of going to Mercury or Marine Max without some idea of cost

Pseudomind, have you had any luck? I've just agreed to terms on an '02 360DA with the 8.1's, but without the VV display. Like you, I want it or some other way to display the SC data.

I found this link: http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2009-SmartCraft-Vessel-View-88089414

From your research so far, would this be an easy install (ie: plug and play)? Is the harness connector already behind the helm, or do we have to run the connection all the way back to the engine room?

I will have to get back to this later, I am working on having a vessel view system installed. According to the company which will be doing it I need some cables

Go to this link and look on page 29 This is the only items we can hook up

You can not get the heat exchanger water pressure, trim or genertor if you have the Westerbekke generator, maybe with the Kohler or other brand. You will need sensors for holding tank, water, fuel. I am going to go ahead with the install look under "Gas Inboard no Troll"

Vessell View Manual link

More Vessell View information from another seller

Here is an answer received from Mercruiser to the shop which will install mine

Hello,
I have spoke with mercury and have found the following with regards to your engines, The ECM ( Engine control Module) is NOT equipped with the software to convert water Pressure, and Trans temp so these options are NOT available to you. The fuel Tank will require just an additional wiring harness as well as the waste tank and water tank would need wiring harnesses also if you wanted to add those the Cost of the each harness is about $150 each. The GPS will tie into the Vessel View with a NMEA Connection and help calculate Fuel Consumption and Range

Thanks for sharing - this is all very helpful. I plan on doing the same when I take delivery later this month. Please share updates on your install as they are available. It is a shame the Vessel View display wasn't standard on the 02 models.

Hey guys,

I have a Mercury SC5000 if you two are still looking and in need. I have cables, junction box, temp sensor, etc as well.

I was fixing to list on ebay, but did a search first on the net to see if anyone was looking.

Let me know. Email me if you are interested. I can send you pics and part numbers of everything I have.

Thanks,

Joe

Email Directly at insideconnections@yahoo.com if anyone interested. I don't usually check forum.
