Hey there - Attached is a picture of my 1987 SeaRay engine. I have a few questions that I was hoping you could all help answer:

    1) I'm looking at getting a new alternator, voltage regulator, and starter. Any idea how much these parts should cost each? I'm located in Canada.

    2) I am looking to get new two new batteries. What should the cranking amps be and should they both be deep cycle/starting batteries? Any brand recommendations? There is a radio and other electronics (lights, wipers etc.) on the boat.

    3) I'm trying to find out where the engine serial number is so I can order some new parts. Do you guys mind pointing out where it is?

    4) Any good videos on how to change the oil on the engine attached?

    Thanks in advance!

Tag is on the block just above the starter. Go to mercs site for part numbers mercruiserpart.com customer service is helpful. 920-929-5040

1.) Everything marine rated is expensive. Make sure you get the Merc equivalent parts and not street rated stuff.

2.) I can't speak for your specific boats but most "dual purpose" batteries these days get the job done for most boaters. I'd match the size/output of your current batteries.

3.) No need for a video. Buy a pump so you can suck the oil out the dipstick. Couldn't be easier. Check Amazon for the pumps...

Jabsco engine oil change pump makes oil changes childs play. They’re a little cash upfront but considering a mechanic (around here) wants $300 per engine for an oil change, they pay for themselves on the first use.

I actually have a 9L oil extractor I used for my SeaDoo. Curious how much oil and what type of oil should go in the engine.

I only have one battery and it's a dual purpose, but it keeps dying on me. It's from 2012. Just looking for two new ones.

Great. What kind of oil filter? Does it need any O-rings?
