When did SR switch to fuel injection

My current 4.3 is carborated and I want to go with fuel injected or MPI for my next SR? What year was the switch made?

That will depend on which engines. What size boat and what engines are you looking at?

I know the 7.4s went TBI/MPI in the late 90's....I think 95 or 96.....

I just went through the SeaRay archives and it looks like they offered a MPI 4.3 on the 2005 185.

The 2004 220SD sundeck started off with a 5.0L MPI 260 hp. The older 210 verson was with the 5.0L 220 hp carb.

Something else to keep in mind. I've heard some good things about Merc's TKS (Turn Key Starting) system. It's not EFI, but for a couple hundred bucks, you can convert virtually any carbed Mercury engine to this new system.

That has been my experience regardless of the temperature. (high30s)

The Dealer told me to veer away from the turn key (TKS) carburated engines (didn't ask why) that why I want the next one to be MPI

My 1999 210 Sundeck was equipped with TBI (Throttle Body Injection) which is essentially injectors in what looks like a carburetor. While it's not as efficient as the newer MPI (Multi Point Injection) engines, it is fuel injection and as such it starts easily and has none of the quirks of a carbureted engine. I am not sure when Mercury started using TBI but I believe it was before 1999.

My 190 has the 240 HP TBI 5.0 litre.....

I don't think you can use the year of manufacture as a gauge to tell if a particular SeaRay is fuel injected. In 1999, for example, you could purchase my boat with either a 4.3 V6 or a 5.0 V8, and you could choose either motor WITH EFI OR WITHOUT...... :huh:

So basically, the year of a boat does not necessarily indicate a fuel injected motor.

SR started offering MPI for the 4.3 and 5.0 for the 2002 model year. Some early 02s still had the EFI/TBI set up.
