When are the seas too rough to take the boat out?

When I read your post, I thought you were agreeing with that... I see you actually were *not* so I apologize for calling you an idiot behind your back.

:wow: I thought I felt something. On a clear no wind no wave day even when I get to the gulf from the harbor hear I look around and head back I'm too chicken to go into the gulf it looks scary. When the depth of the water goes from 10ft to 80ft instantly there is somethin to be said there and I'm not gonna find out how well SeaRay makes boats. One time we were coming back and the wind really picked up and the chop got bad on top of that the bilge pump was not working (thanks marinemax) so the bilge was full of water from when I cleaned it earlier so it was tough getting it to plain and cut the chop it was a very kidney busting ride back.

What is wrong with the regular marine weather forcasts available on your VHF or many websites for day boating?

Here's an example:

Perhaps I am just an analog boater, but it doesn't take tons of on-board electronic gee-whizz to be safe and have fun. Maybe this is another one of those "because it can be done" things............

You'll be surprised. When I was one of the cruises with Royal Caribbean I had the opportunity to take the bridge tour. When I asked what type of weather radars they use the answer was none. They go simply by what’s on the web. But, ofcourse this ship doesn't care so much if it's 6-8' waves, but they need to make guest comfortable.

Since I always run the ocean, I stop at around 8'. Though you can not always pull to the side of the road when they get bigger.
