Whats your Boats name and what does it mean to you

My Girlfriend didn't want her name on it, so I'm calling it "After You".

In August, 2000 my daughter and her boyfriend were going to Drum Corps International finals in Washington DC. The boyfriend's mother had been a divorced single for 25 years and I had just lost my wife to cancer in June. They were going to camp in Washington and realized the night before they were to leave when they were packing the LeBaron convertible that they did not have room for all the gear. I got a late night call to see if I would come out of my seclusion and go to Washington with them (plus could I bring the company Suburban). Just an easy drive from IL to Detroit to Washington. I stayed in a motel and they camped, but needless to say the boyfriend's mother and I spent a lot of time together. We were both "Swept Away", thus a boat name. We are married, but the kids are split up after dating 12 years, but that's another story!

I guess we're not the only ones who involve the kids...

Both of my son's have played soccer since kindergarten. The oldest gave up the sport in highschool to play football, my youngest is good enough to think about playing in college if he works hard. Anyway, I have always refered to down time as kickin' back. My youngest and my wife were brainstorming for a name and the boy said "hey, how about kickn' back? That's what we do on the boat and the only weekends we don't use the boat are because of soccer".

Hence

Kickin' Back

Small Getaway
That is what she is, a place to get away from everything.

Empty pockets because I'm broke from boating all these years, I need boat addition therepy . I'll see if they can help me at the boat show tomorrow.

"Bolivar"
In the early nineties, our business grew tremendously. We sell Cuban cigars, and with the extra income we bought a boat. I always wanted to remember why I could afford such a luxury. Bolivar is my favorite brand of Cuban cigar. This is our third Bolivar.

Then how about Day Go Boating :smt043:smt043

In my own case, until we appropriately appease Neptune with some bubbly I cannot reveal what we are going to rename it and risk some marine catastrophe.

Damn Bob, I didn’t know you had that in ya! Good one.

Hey Rblatter I too love a good Cigar.

I wanted to add that Since my fathers boat was the The Pussycat ours will be the The Pussycat II. When I started this thread I forgot to add the II

So Sorry for the mistake.

In front of everyone, I held my 320's key up to the boat gods and declared "Behold, If this key works in this door, then we must buy this boat, for it is Destiny!" I then inserted the key into the door and magically, the door unlocked, the crowd gasped and the wife fainted, or did she curse?

Little did I know then that the stupid key I had on the 320 opens every single damn lock that mobella makes. Good thing I didn't try that trick on a 390.

I'll have to check with the Mrs. to see if its true!

Anywhoo, three boats so far.

The first one was Serenity Now, as it was our get away from the everyday. Sold that one in two years, and while the Admiral and I were thinking up a name, she said Serenity Again. I said sure, and then of course she replied whats the next one, Serenity Forever?

It is. We had Serenity Again for one season, and here with are with Serenity Forever*.

*Until I get that perfect 320DA

When my wife and I were dating I had a 220OV SeaRay. Recently Divorced I was contemplating selling it. One night I took her out to Dinner on Lake Union in Seattle by boat. While we waited for a table we went into a jewlery store next door and were talking about it was a stupid idea to sell something we both enjoyed so much. In the store she spotted a Necklace with Dolphins on a medallion similar to this one.

My (now)wife loves Dolphins, as they have special meaning to her from when she scattered some of her mother's ashes in the ocean near Catlina Island, the dolphins came to greet them. On the Medallion's tag was a description of the Necklace and how The Dolphin's were symbol's of the Celtic Godess of the Seafarers -Nehalennia.

We bought it immediately, had a great dinner and I told her I think we just found the Name for My Boat.
We sold Nehalennia to by our house in 1998. Without a boat for a full year, we went crazy doing yardwork and drove in a truck for vacations.
In 2000 we found a 230OV "Nehalennia II" which we sold July 07.

We looked, found a bought Nehalennia III in last December 07. Since Nehalennia is tough enough to communicate with on the VHF, I didn't really want to name this boat Nehalennia III. Even though we like the Celtic Name, I'm Icelandic, and proud of the Scandinavian and Viking heritage.
The Scandinaian/Viking Rune for three which is a triangle. So I designed a new Name and design.
It has the Rune symbol for three and added the Three Dolphins to represent the 3 Nehalennias.

So we just use Nehalennia.

My first SeaRay 185 didn't have a name, my second a 1989 240WE was named Chanticler for my french heritage. Then came a 2000 245WE after a long drought from boating and thanks to the stock market, named her Mutual Fun (after where the money came from). It's continued on to my 2004 260Dancer, Mutual Fun Too!

My first boat was a 13' runabout that was old and rickety, she was therefore called "Toiletfish"

My next two boats (a 16' Starcraft and a brand new 16' Four Winns) were both called "Boogie Man" because me and my buddies knee-boarded all the time. Early on in knee board days, some people (like us) used to call what we now call knee boards, boogie boards (not to be confused with the similarly shaped ocean surfing implement).

The next boat was a 19' Cobia cuddy cabin I called "This Year's Girl" (which is also an Elvis Costello song), because at this point I was getting a new (OK, different) boat every year.

True to form, I got a different boat the next year, which was a 25' Bayliner. What a huge mistake. That boat, because of it's brown color theme and because it was a piece of $hit, was called the "Chocolate Mess". I flipped that one quickly. The guy I sold it to drove it into a pile of rocks on his way home, ripped out the out-drive and it sank.

I had a deposit on a Four Winns 205 Liberator, but I backed out on it. It had a black and red theme and loud exhaust, and was going to name that one "Cross Eyed Mary" after the Jethro Tull song.

My next boat was a 1977 26' Pacemaker. It had the name "Lucky 7" on it when I bought it. It was called that because it was a '77 and because the girl in the family that I bought it from was born in 1977. I bought it in '89. At settlement, she said to me "Mister, you're not going to change the name of my boat are you?" I didn't want to tempt Neptune, and if you count all the ****ty little boats (inflatables, sport yaks, sunfish, sea larks) I owned before the Toilet Fish as one, Lucky 7 was my seventh boat, so I kept that name.

I had that one for a while. Great little boat. Especially when I yanked the 305 Chevy and replaced it with a 388 big-block Chrysler. I sold that boat to a friend who kept it for another 10 years.

Then we went to sailing, where I had four sail boats: a 27' Catalina, a 28' Mariner, a 36' Beneteau and a 42' Beneteau. All the sailboats were called "Bella Donna", which means "beautiful lady" in Italian (my wife is of Italian descent). Belladonna is also a pain killing/anti-anxiety drug. The wife's name is also Donna. So it worked on a lot of levels. We didn't do the roman numeral thing, all were simply called "Bella Donna".

Then we went back to power with a Carver 360 Sports Sedan, we called this one "Prodigal Son" because I was born a power boater, had wandered off for years as a sailor, but I came back to power boating. Plus, I am a very religious guy (anyone wanna buy a bridge in Brooklyn?).

Now on to the current boat (#13!) which we bought in 2007. We decided to call this one "Festivus" which, of course, is a made up holiday. Point being that any day on the boat can be a made up holiday! Plus, it is a reference to the greatest TV show ever. The name is relatively unique and we have bought all sorts of crap over the years (like T-shirts, hats, wine glasses and coffee mugs) with "Festivus Greetings" on them. Just for fun...

The dinghy's name? "The Rest Of Us"

"Cat's Whiskers" named after my wife's sewing lable. '08 Sea Ray 310 DA. I think it's still the only Axius boat on Old Hickory Lake, near Nashville.

Hi,

My previous boat was a Grady White which was named Jus Fishin. When we bought the Amberjack the name on the boat was Hooked Up.

My wife liked the logo of the name so we decided to keep it.

Mark Twain was reported to have been asked what he thought of Long Island Sound when compared to the great Mississippi after he settled in Hartford Connecticut nad is quoted as saying, "It's the world's biggest bathtub with everyone's rubber ducky in it."

Hence, the name....

There was a movie, "Dead Poet's Society", back in the late 80's, which had the theme of Carpe Diem (Seize the day). That movie moved me so and has inspired my daily living to date. I believe you need to suck the marrow out of life and take every adventure you can, look for every possibility, as you only have one chance around this game called "life".

My first boat, the Baja 196, was un-named. One day I walked into the Sea Ray dealer and was greeted by the stearn of a 370SS "Carpe Diem". That day there was a 1990 220 Sundancer that was 4 years old and was a cherry. She had only 20 hours on her. So I said "Carpe Diem"!!!! and bought the boat there and then! :) Now, two boats later, the 330 Sundancer is "Carpe Diem III".

That is the rest of the story.
