Too big a company,? Too comfortable with history of top sales ?? designers to confident ??
Lacking good quality control??

Too bad for these owners now ...Now there's a braking problem in there other models??? :smt009

Like their marketing says, they're "Moving Forward". Just faster than anticipated.

In an effort to minimize costs, they do platform and parts sharing between models. The risk is that if there is a problem with a common part it affects all models. This is what happened. Unfortunately for them, it was a critical component.

Toyota has built a reputation for building cars that practically drive themselves without the need for any maintenance. They are not "driver's" cars. The average Toyota buyer is not a "driver."

Now, put a faulty accelerator with an operator who expects the car to drive itself and you have a disaster. Explain to me why you can't stop a car with a stuck accelerator and you are a Toyota Camry driver.

Great point JV, people that buy Toyota's just like to sit back, relax and aim the car where they want it to go. No emotion, no involvement in the mechanics of it, just work the two pedals and that's it. Drove a Lexus ES once and almost fell asleep.

They are well made though, very quiet and maintenance free if you don't abuse them. I chose a Volvo 850 Turbo over the Lexus and never regretted it.
