looking at this all from germany the actual situation appears strange to me ...

while your president is very good in strong words at twitter iran now shows the world it can do what it wants , either attacking civilian tankers or downing your military drones and usa does nothing beyond a war battle at twitter ...

if usa is not interested in a military conflict its nice , but in this case for what cancelling the nuclear deal at all and for what that sactions at all instead go the diplomatic way ?

i see the fear iran will win this conflict in a bold way and will dictate the rules in future and usa will leave this conflict as a complete fool.

up to now it appears your predident talks about fire and fury and destroying iran while it becomes clear to everybody it is nothing more than a tweet and a laugh.

honestly - you are by far the most powerful military machine on this planet ...

what do native americans think about this ?

best regards

jaybeaux : let me be clear i,m on your side ! i give you a point germany should pay more on supporting nato . we can build cars , we cannot go military ... so hope you can since nobody wants a nuclear tipped iran dictating the rules to the free world.

They shot down a $130Million RC airplane. We probably spent more on coffee in this country today. Why get excited?

My proposal:
What Americans Think:
1.) 58% of the Population - Has no idea why we'd care about Iran. Zero awareness, zero interest
1a.) 66% of this population subset would have a one in three chance of finding Iran on a map
2.) 30% of the Population - Has a cursory awareness of global politics, understands we (the USA) has an important global role to play but generally feels we're over-involved and under-appreciated by everyone. Everyone except maybe Israel.
3.) 11% of the Population - Works for the US Government (or is related to someone that does), loves all things foreign involvement, majored in Political Science (or an adjacent field) at a prestigious university and enjoys the stimulation of imagining the different scenarios presented by US involvement in foreign governments
4.) 1% of the Population - Believes we should annex Canada, bring all of our troops home, reopen our rare-earth mineral mines and start spending our $600Billion per year on one bad ass iron dome of our own.

I'm sure there are other opinions out there :)

Ohh and OP - Generally, "Native Americans" are known as American Indians and make up only 2% of the population here. The rest of us are just Americans.

No one knows why we dropped 100 Tomahawks into Libya and destabilized an entire country. While Obama considers it his biggest mistake, it sent a message.

If you piss on the US enough times ......nobody cares (except Iranians) if we let loose another round of Tomahawks on Iran. Tomahawks are only $1.5m a copy. The Globalhawk they shot down costs $180m. Do the math. Expect the US to strike back and take out their SAM batteries.

If Iran were flying drones over our airspace, we'd be shooting them down. Just the nature of clandestine surveillance. Occasionally you get caught.

Not sure international waters is "owned" by Iran. With that kind of thinking....they would own and control the Strait of Hormuz. The Defense Department released footage of the drone being shot down and its location.

Playing cat and mouse allows us to see real-time scenarios and where we need to change and adapt...I have little information into the military readiness of our forces. I know the top brass and the previous administration allowed China and Russia to leap-frog over us in certain aspects... That said, the UK and Israel are the ones to watch here....They can do things with less ramifications than we can...Keep in mind, everywhere we go these days, Russia is following....Ukraine, Syria, Turkey, Venezuela, etc...Germany, you guys are going to have a mess on your hands in the next 10 years...Perhaps we will too...

This is a joke right. Iran is simply an irritant at this point. BFD they shot down an unarmed RC plane. We aren't going to war over that (although some may want to). The solution is simple. Escort the oil freighters, fire back when/if fired upon. They ain't going to touch anything that can shoot back.

Keep in mind the progressive leftist are pushing the Iranians to provoke the US and get the US into an escalation with the Iranians.

The progressives are becoming desperate since their Mueller Collusion/Obstruction fantasy imploded and are looking for anyway possible to discredit the President.

As a disabled veteran I am opposed to getting into an intanglement over something this petty. That being said first American life lost then different story....

thank you very much for your opinions so far , very interesting !

i,m with you its not worth the price to go into military conflict over a drone or some holes in tanker ships- of course not .

but i see a bigger picture : iran is about to show us all they can do whatever they want and get away with this . that is not good and the window for diplomatic talks with your president is closing with every incident if he wants to keep his face .

Ever wonder why private citizen John Kerry was talking to Iran? He violated the Logan Act and should be charged with treason!

First of all, disregard the twitter; it's a means to keep the press on a dirt road, and it's working just fine.
So, the US pulled out of the previous administration's Iran deal due to Iran using the funds (billions of US dollars) to further aggression and terrorism outside of their boarders. This current administration did the right thing to pull out of the deal. Additionally, the tariffs have squeezed Iran financially into desperation. Iran needs to comply and become a part of civilized society which is counter to their political basis on some extreme religious principals; they have some difficult changes to undertake or become a relic to history. It would be best served if the other major players become a part of the pressure.
Oh and also - disregard our own internal political quips; as arrogant as the US executive branch appears (which is mostly a fabrication of the press and opposing party) the excellent security, economic, and lifestyle aspects in America have remained, in fact, are improving prospects for the children.

Remember Francis Gary Powers? How many Manned flights over the last 50 years have been shot down and we did nothing? Im not for looking like a "paper tiger" but its always the aftermath that is the real issue.

Seriously though, the sanctions are squeezing them hard. There is a large freedom faction within the country based on reports. We are no longer handing them billions in payoffs and they are running out of money. Their attacks are basically psychological attacks (even though phyically based) as they are trying to drive up oil prices (that will increase their revenue from their limited sources) by attacking tankers and shooting down drones (keep in mind these are about the size of a 737 based on reports) to shock the speculative markets.
