What would you do to revive the US economy?

MM, the worst part is, half of the American people don't seem to get that concept :smt021

Worse yet, the current political climate seems to have convinced that same half that people who created the jobs are evil SOB's.

Uuh, wonder who gave them that idea? Oh yea, politicians and @$##%%&&^ stoking class warfare. MM

The more I look at what ails our economy, the bigger my favorite whipping post, crony capitalism, appears to be. Instead of out competing others, big business is cozy with politicians and conspires to make it hard for competitors to compete. Add to that the agenda of the radical enviromental movement, looming higher taxes, and energy costs, then who wants to bite off any more than they have on their plate. MM

You are beginning to see the light.

BTW: When Fox news and Republican Presidential candidates talk about reducing taxes and regulations. . .do you think they are talking about doing this for small business owners?

BTW: From what I see, the small business guys don't have the $$$ to compete on the national level. Instead, they work on the local level. You should see what your local town guys are doing.

In Canada capital gains is taxed on half of what the total gain was. If you make a living by day trading the money made is income and taxed at 100%. If that was done in the USA perhaps the goverment would have more income. We do not get to wright off the interest on loans for our house; but any profit when we sell it is tax free. Our equivalent to Saocial Security payments is less than half of what a US citizen receives.

Just out of curiosity, what is the total population of Canada? Does the US have nine times the population of Canada? I think our system will work a little differently..."ehhhh"

All regulations hurt business, it is the balancing act of not allowing one to hurt another is the only purpose of regulation. Small business just feel the impact more. So yes they are talking about doing this for small business. We must stop using government as a tool to beat the comptition and go to work. MM

U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK) today released a new oversight report, “Wastebook 2011” that highlights over $6.5 billion in examples of some of the most egregious ways your taxpayer dollars were wasted.

Examples of wasteful spending highlighted in “Wastebook 2011” include:
• $75,000 to promote awareness about the role Michigan plays in producing Christmas trees & poinsettias.
• $15.3 million for one of the infamous Bridges to Nowhere in Alaska.
• $113,227 for video game preservation center in New York.
• $550,000 for a documentary about how rock music contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union.
• $48,700 for 2nd annual Hawaii Chocolate Festival, to promote Hawaii’s chocolate industry.
• $350,000 to support an International Art Exhibition in Venice, Italy.
• $10 million for a remake of “Sesame Street” for Pakistan.
• $35 million allocated for political party conventions in 2012.

I don't agree with this one. This bridge is needed across Cook Inlet to open up more land. Anchorage is out of land and if the city wants to expand, then the other side of Cook Inlet is the only choice. Alaska is only 52 years old and we don't have the infrastructure other states have. If this is an example, the rebuilding the bridge in Minnesota was also wasted money.

This is where I get in trouble, why am I paying for that? I'm not saying it is not needed for Anchorage expansion, just why can't AK (this is for all states not just AK) pay for it? This is part if the states losing sovereignty as you and I have agreed on before. I'm sick of pu$$y states sending their dollars and power to Washington then sucking up to Washington to get it back. We can't have it both ways, by AK control of the waterways while spending Washingtons $$$ to build state infastructure. MM

Ahhh did you really listen to that video? Points on both sides and both of these individuals are smarter, more insightful, and more articulate than those currently in power in government regardless of the positions put forward.

I think Indiana should be the trial state. No federal funds in any form to that state for the next 30yrs.

That would be a blessing as we would be better off with self determination. Wisconsin doesn't receive much profit either. Alaska gets nearly double what they pay. I suspicion much of the overage is borrowed by the feds. MM

May as well start printing your own currency as well. . .

. . . I think the "self determination" thing was kind of settled back in the 1860's.
