What would you do to revive the US economy?

Not really... I would categorize them as "bitter".

Gary! I *knew* you would be able to respond to that. In fact, I almost called you out to respond.

Anyhow -> I think in this case your assessment is spot-on. Good show!

Keep looking in the mirror every morning blaming others for your miserable life.

My basic point is that I believe anybody can achieve anything in the USA... There is no "man" out to get you or holding you back.... You are never too old...

The only thing that gets in anyone's way is their poor attitude.

Some famous guy once said "The harder you work, the luckier you get."

Not sure the link makes your point.

Anyhow. . . .very few of the conservatives on this board, and certainly none campaigning for President (except perhaps Paul), can really be considered "libertarian". My libertarian views are typically labeled pinko communist.

True libertarian views will never be labeled "pinko communist" so if you get labled that, you better rethink your "libertarian views". MM

Wouldn't it be ironic if Obummer was not re-elected because of high unemployment made worse because of his policies. Particularly the unending unemloyment benifits that incentivise not working. Some of you here guffawed when other members suggested they could not find employees. MM

http://www.mariettatimes.com/page/c...less-benefits-a--frustration-to-employer.html
Unemployment - Need or Scam
Last year the demand for our construction services, to our delight, was as they say "going through the roof" to a point where were turning down more work than we were accepting. Frustrated that we could not be available to the potential new clients that were calling on us, and simultaneously excited that this was happening to our company, since unemployment had broken the double digits marker. I decided we would grow, work to sign up as much as 40% more in total contracts, and hire up to 12 additional full time employees. Basically take advantage of our good fortune and get a small portion of our community back to work.
The plan was initiated, the additional contracts were signed up and then we set out to hire the employees. Little did I know that attempting to hire the employees needed, which I had thought to be the easiest part, would turn out to be a nightmare if not impossible. I'm sure that reading this you will be almost as surprised as I was directly experiencing it.
My experience: Before 2009 if our company advertised for an open position, on average we would get 20 to 30 applications, interview six to eight of the applicants, and hire one or two, based on the quality and potential of the candidates. This process has been deteriorating dramatically since 2009 and now at the end of 2011 it has completely hit bottom. Of all the applications that we have received this year, when asked why they were seeking a job with us, one out of three answered: my unemployment is running out and I have to go back to work. Earlier this year after I hired two new full-time employees, went through our company's orientation process, fitted them with our work clothing and booked them to start within a week, they both quit. One called ahead of the start date to apologize but wanted to inform us he would not be coming in because the government had just extended unemployment benefits again. The second one just did not show on his first day and when I called him he said he couldn't come in now because unemployment had been extended and he was making almost as much as we were planning to start him out with. If this is not frustrating enough to those of us that provide jobs and pay taxes let me give you my last two attempts this year. Both times we advertised in various media at great expense. The first time only seven applicants came in, I set up personal interviews with two for potential hiring, neither of them even showed up. The second time with six applicants, I set up interviews with four, one called in to cancel the interview, one did not even show up, two actually came in, though one was late. To summarize (in case you missed the math) of the last six people that I called for interviews for potential full-time employment only two came with one being late. It is more than frustrating, it's perverted.
Our government is considering extending unemployment benefits again soon. The final absurdity might be that extending unemployment is the only thing that both the Democratic and Republican majorities both agree on.
My personal position is one of reality. Those who are unemployed and verifiably work every day to find some kind of employment, but are unsuccessful, should receive unemployment benefits for a substantial period of time. However, the unemployed who are collecting dishonest benefits via the hard working tax payers, should be arrested.
Thus I'm asking the government to start verifying and policing the unemployment department. Support those really in need. Kick out the rest and allow us to put people back to work.

In addition to moving the headquarters, the company will invest $2 billion in China and train more than 65 engineers and create six research centers. This is the same GE that made $5.1 billion in the United States last year. but paid no taxes-the same company that employs more people overseas than it does in the United States.

Being it the medical device field, I know where they are coming from. The contract manufacturers in WI and MN are, yet again, pricing themselves out of the market. I'm getting bids from the southern US (right to work states) that are 1/3 of what the "rust belt" is coming in at... But then again... WI loves unions...

Soooooo, Fore Skins....... We all (working middle class) should all work for peanuts(sweat labor), while you sit in your office counting the big money??.................. I don't think so......:lol:

Still waiting. MM

Its got nothing to do with the government taking money to create jobs. Its about changing the tax structure, taking the heavy burden off the middle class (those "losers" as you put it who do most of the living, dying and spending in this country) and shifting it to the wealthier folks who can more afford it. Unless your an anarchist you understand that the government is going to need at least a certain amount of money if for nothing else defense. The synopsis of the article is that its a bad idea (if you want economic recovery) for the tax burden to be placed on those who can least afford it. If some of that burden is passed up the economic scale it will leave those in the middle class with more to spend thus stimulating the economy.

And I find it hilarious that any time an article is posted that presents the clear case that you, MM and a few others on here beliefs and ideas about the economy are total bull**** your answer is "he's an idiot"...... maybe the guy writing the article is NOT the idiot?

How much do you want from the upper income taxpayers? The top 10% pay 70% of all income taxes. Depending on how we define "middle class" they ALL only contribute 10% of all income taxes if they are above the 50th percentile but below the 75th percentile, or 27% if they are above the 50th percentile but below the 90th percentile.

So what exactly stimulates job - "work" creation and where? I know, by experience, where Walmart's suppliers (P&G, Unilever, Colgate, L'Oreal, LVMH, SC Johnson, and Dial (Henkel)) are driven to have me chase job/work creation (capital tooling/capital equipment and "some" production..... It isn't on this continent! Germany and Switzerland still have apprentice programs that lead to "good jobs and good careers".... Asia, well we all know that drill. Meanwhile we have too many, but not all, whining, out of touch, purchased by highest bidder, political 0's!

Four Suns; I believe that you are incorrect. Good attitude is a necessary, not a sufficient condition.
While hard work gets you good luck; you STILL need good luck.

But yes. . ."Fortune favors the well prepared".
I do believe that addage.

Luck has little bearing on basic middle class success. The proper attitude is necessary to acheive this success and to be there to collect when the stars align. Economist Walter Williams says "Avoiding long-term poverty is not rocket science. First, graduate from high school. Second, get married before you have children, and stay married. Third, work at any kind of job, even one that starts out paying the minimum wage. And, finally, avoid engaging in criminal behavior." MSN repots: " 5 ways to get rich . . . or poor. Some households accumulate wealth, and some don't. It comes down to several factors, such as marriage, homeownership and college education, as well as the choices you make."

None of the experts mentiond luck. That is what liberals always say to soothe their conscience as the commandeer money from the hard working successful people for their pet projects. MM

So what exactly stimulates job - "work" creation and where?!

Small business is the answer not the entrenched big business. Small business has generated over 64% of our new jobs in this country in the last 15 years.

So why are they not "creating" these jobs? Regulation and uncetainty. Regulations cost small business 36% more than big business, small business does not have the tools to deal with them. The more I look at what ails our economy, the bigger my favorite whipping post, crony capitalism, appears to be. Instead of out competing others, big business is cozy with politicians and conspires to make it hard for competitors to compete. Add to that the agenda of the radical enviromental movement, looming higher taxes, and energy costs, then who wants to bite off any more than they have on their plate. MM

MM, the worst part is, half of the American people don't seem to get that concept :smt021

Worse yet, the current political climate seems to have convinced that same half that people who created the jobs are evil SOB's.
If things don't change, we might just see how "evil" those "sob's" can be!
