What to look for in a marina?

Looks like you are right across from me. The people at Clark's are great and I'm sure the delivery will go smooth. Good luck and I hope you have a great summer on the Magothy...

My wife and I started looking at marinas in early March. The weather was kind of nasty, but we got a feel for what we were looking for quickly. As the weeks went by and the weather started to get warmer and nicer, we really started to notice what we wanted in a marina and what we could get in the area. Below is what I feel is important, at least for Lake Texoma, where we ended up. Not in any particular order.....

Decent docks, sturdy and well lit at night. Locks on the gangways.
Good room between boathouses.
Have available room for decking, and chairs, tables, etc.
Well kept boats near by.
Friendly staff at the marina office and the marina shop, both are the case for us.
Decent hours for the fuels dock, good people manning it.
Quickie store close by.
Water and power.
Plenty of parking.
Covered slips.

Those are many things, but not all I guess. But the one thing that made us decide on going to the marina we chose (Catfish Bay) and the boat house we chose, were the people. When we went up to see the marina, it was a nice day out and many people were on the dock. They were a warm and friendly bunch and introduced themselves right away. We ended up standing there talking with them for about 45 minutes.

Well, all those people we spoke with that day are already good friends. It is making our new life on our boat a wonderful experience. They are great, and frankly, they make the dock! Even my wife can’t wait until Friday night to head on up! She is usually there LONG before I!
