What the heck is going on with our country?

It's easy to say the DOW has been going up since 2009. But look at the sharp increase in the DOW since election day 2016.

On Tuesday November 8th, 2016 the Dow closed at 18,332.74

When Trump was sworn in 73 days later the Dow closed at 19,827.25, an over 8% increase based on the hope that Trump would be implementing tax cuts for people and businesses, and general pro-business approach. The Bulls have been running wild ever since.

Businesses are in business to make money. A great way to grow a business is to wisely invest more capital into it. This results in more jobs, less unemployment, less burden on the welfare state, and improved confidence in the economy.

Not to mention that the economy had plenty of momentum when this administration took over.

GFC, I remember you remarking how bad Michigan's economy was when you found your boat. 2 years ago I put my house on the market and began to look for another. I got a high offer so quickly and inventory is so low that I ended living on the boat for a year! That happened when Trump was just a reality star.

As far as news? It's clearly biased on both sides. I judge Trump on what HE SAYS (and tweets).

The Dow is up due to speculation that regulations and tax laws will be enacted to favor businesses, the Dow has been on a steady climb since 2009, BTW. President's policy has very little effect on it as the Fiscal year for the US just started in OCT 2017.
I know I am benefiting from the rise of the Dow!
Calling people "snowflakes" seems to be a fall back position for any one who has a different opinion from that of a Conservative. It really serves no purpose other than to damage the credibility of the person using it. Citing facts is usually a better argument.
The country going "downhill" is just one persons opinion, but we definitely are more divided than ever. As evidenced by the passionate opinions expressed here and on other Social Media sites.

You take issue with the term "snowflakes", but not a word about "sleaze ball and chief"? It seems to me that neither conservatives nor liberals have the market cornered on civility. Just sayin'.

The difference is that the Orange Liar is a 3rd party here. It's another thing to attack each other. I hear you though. I lose about 2 Facebook friends a month!

I tend to use the term snowflake for everyone that whines, cries or in general has a tantrum when things don't go the way they want. The term can be applied to both conservatives and liberals equally, but in my experience it does tend to apply to liberals more. Its more about how you deal with the difference of opinion rather than the difference itself

Regretfully, I think the days of having people of exceptionally high moral character in the oval office are behind us.

I'd celebrate Bill's level of character at this point. Endorsing Roy Moore?!?!?

And this is how bad it's gotten. A sitting president of the United States of America gets on national tv, looks right in the camera while pointing his finger... and proceeds to tell us a flat out lie about him getting hummers in the White House from a page while his wife is right down the hall.

And he now looks like a pretty good guy.
We're hosed.

We`re still better off with him then with Shillary or that other old goat

fair enough. For what its worth, I could stand to lose a few facebook "friends" myself :)

Bob you beat me to it. I don't normally let myself stoop to the level of calling others on here names.

While it's true (as was stated above) the Dow has been in a fairly steady climb since 2009, as shown in the graph below, which is a 5 year record of the DJIA, it had stopped climbing in the last quarter of 2014. It stayed flat until the 3rd quarter of 2016 when it really started to climb. Coincidentally, that was the last 2 years of Obummer's presidency.

To the naysayers who think PRESIDENT Trump has not done anything good for the country, do you think the rise from 18,000 to the current 24,140 is pure coincidence? I'd say that significant jump in the DJIA coincides with election day and it hasn't stopped climbing yet.

C'mon Man, get real. Open your collective eyes and take a look at what the country is experiencing. Also take a look at the bottom chart which shows trading volume. It was flat for the whole part of that 5 year look-back when Obummer was president, then climbed to where it fluctuates now when Trump took over.

Trump would not have been my favorite candidate and I must say I voted for him as the lessor of the two evils. But I will say that he has kept many of the promises he made to the country. You can't say that about our previous president.

The sexual assault allegations being thrown around feel more like a media/ social media driven Kangaroo Court more than anything else.
I live in Minnesota. I never voted for Franken or Moore from Alabama. Nor have I supported all of the media/ movie guys who have been accused of sexual harassment. Even though most of these guys seem to be total sleeze bags how can they ever be given any kind of due process with the current media environment????

This is concerning. I work in a corporate environment. It has been pretty common for me to give a hug to a female coworker that I haven’t seen in a while. That stopped last week.
I met up with a colleague today out of state. We joined each other in the airport to ride to our customer’s location. I refused to hug her as I have dozens of times in the past. I have never crossed the line with a female colleague but this new environment has rewritten the rules.

I'm with you Big. I've always been a hugger and welcomed a hug from guys or gals. That is all in the past. There are still a very few women I'll give a hug to, and that will be ONLY those who I know welcome a hug and share it right back.

"but this new environment has rewritten the rules."
Maybe it's time the rules were rewritten. I think between good friends a hug or smooch on the cheek will always be OK. But for me, that list just got a LOT smaller.

None of this is about hugs. Moore chased 14 year olds. He was banned from malls. His shame, and the shame of The Pussy Grabber who is endorsing him didn't come from a civil hug between adults in public places.

I'm not letting the disgrace of scumbags change who I am. I suggest you don't either.

To everyone who is calling Trump a pussy grabber.

You do realize he was talking shit to another guy when he said that? That he actually didn't go around grabbing women's pussies?

That doesn't make what Trump said right, it is very regrettable, but let's put it in the context it deserves.

I actually prefer to refer to him the way his Secretary of State does. I do believe in context, and I don't believe most of what the F***ing Moron says. I just wanted to make the point that in a country that elects someone who claims to grab pussies and endorses a scumbag who grab 14 year old pussies, men of quality character CAN OFFER A CONSENSUAL HUG IN PUBLIC TO ANOTHER ADULT!

I would however suggest you only hug adults of the opposite gender. The F'ing M just endorsed someone for the Senate who believes homosexuality should be illegal.

let's do better folks.

I would imagine hugging in the workplace is where sexual harassment started. How does one truly know if the hug is consensual? Maybe the one being hugged is simply returning the hug out of fear of reprisal.

When I was entering the workforce, handshake etiquette dictated a man should not offer his hand to a woman upon meeting. He should wait until she offers her hand to him. That way she determines whether or not she wants to make bodily contact. This was the proper way to greet a woman in the workplace.

Honestly, won't a simple handshake suffice in a work environment? Hugging and other forms of affection have no place in the office.

I'll take the 180!

I don't at all agree that this sexual harassment flurry began with hugging, but I wouldn't be surprised if the offer of a handshake to all men in a room, but not the women may have started some gender inequality allegations!

True, but I've not read anywhere recently about someone being let go from a $20m job for not shaking a woman's hand.
