Get ready to splash the 250DA for the first time after a loong complete restoration. I have installed a power winch with a 10,000 marine pull. Big problem is that is soooo slow coming in and its only sloooow power out.
Are you guys using power winches or hand winches? If hand winches, what weight capacity are you using? Again, I have a 1990 250DA, I would estimate it roughly around 6-7K weight. Thanks in advance!

I don't use the winch. I power on and power off. But, to answer your question, I have a manual winch and I think it's the original 2500lb Dutton.

I use a manual winch. I float off, and float on. During loading, I typically only have about 2' of strap to winch in. I have my OEM winch, a Dutton 2500#. Piece of cake.

I also float on and off.....I use about 6 ft of strap with my factory Loadmaster manual winch. I see alot of boats (props) and trailers damaged by powerloading, Mike.

Manual one for me as well. I usually only need 3-5 feet of strap out to retrieve the boat and it's a pretty easy pull on the wet bunks.

Thanks for the replies! I think I may change her back to the manual. I like the idea of the manual, gives me peace of mind. I got the power winch for the wife, but....haha. thanks again!

I use a dual speed manual winch on my Formula. 12K pounds and I float on. I can crank fast and then switch to low speed for more power to finish with.

Dev, if you need to, have the person in the boat help you crank by using some engine power. How much engine power you use is determined, in part, by the ramp. Cement ramp - as much as you want. Gravel/sand - careful, don't want to make a hole.

Thanks everyone for the insight. I decided to remove the cheapie power winch and go with a 2500lb two speed manual. I can power on almost all the way and with the roller trailer, the manual will be perfect. Thanks again!!!

Mike, just curious about your setup, which "Loadmaster" trailer you are using? The custom made out of Ohio or the Aluminum Loadmaster from Florida.

Thanks

My trailer is from Ohio.....2200lbs empty and built very well. 12,500 gross rating. It came with my 270 which really made it a great package purchase. I priced the same trailer for a 270 that did not come with a trailer and it was $5200. The Loadmaster sales staff was very helpful with questions and answers on the trailer I got with my boat....2002 model. The trailer axle placement is based on a single or twin engine boat so be aware of that, Mike.
