What size shop vac is small enough to fit comfortably in the 450DA bilge but be big enough to get the job done?

BEST !

I've switched over to battery-powered vacs. The boat one is a Milwaukee and it both sucks and blows... but also it uses the same battery eco-system/charger as the other onboard battery-powered tools. Also, it's smaller enough (3-gal. I think) so I can lift it easier when it's full.

Probably other brands equally useful.

+1 on the Bucket Head - this stays on the boat in the engine room
+1 on the Ridgid - This one stays in the dock box and is used while at port (more powerful)

I use a large Craftsman shop vac that has a hose fitting on the top and will pump itself dry. Just put a hose on it and pump overboard. When I need to vacuum my bilge, it is after I have done some serious wash down and the climb out of the er with 2 or three gallons at a time is a pain. On the 506 there is plenty of space in the ER to store the Vac. I have actually considered permanently installing it and plumbing it in.

So you can vac out the bilge, then the vac has enough lift to pump from the bilge ..... where?

... Up and over the transom?

Or maybe out the transom door?

THANK YOU

That’s interesting… I like that idea of it pumps itself out.

I have a little 2.5 gallon Stinger vacuum that I use in the bilge and to clean my grey water sump. It’s nice and compact so I can store it easily on the boat.

From the ER up and over the aft deck It is an easy eight foot lift from the ER floor. I have yet to figure out how the damn thing actually works. It only has one motor and one switch I assume it has a vane pump that it uses to evacuate the water. Nice unit. Ill post the model number after I go to the boat tomorrow.
