The FAA has dropped the ball and we continue on without clear regulation of drones, so I thought it would be interesting to discuss this since so many boaters like to fly them.

another invasion of my privacy.....death from above.....they'll make great skeet shooting targets....bring em on.

JMO tho

How then will I get my Amazon deliveries for Christmas?!

Who cares? My neighbor has 5 of them. I have nothing to hide so fly away and shoot whatever picture/video you want.

I suppose you're talking civilian/commercial drones. I'd rather talk about them other drones....the ones that have a missile aimed at your neighbor Ishwar. Just a matter of time, ka-boom....coming soon to a neighborhood near you.

That sounds like a "Holding Tank" thread. LOL

I see them as a security threat. To be used only on privately owned land by the landowner. Used in public or commercial airspace they could be a untraceable threat. If flown over private property, they could be shot down.

I agree with Southpaw. I also feel that they should not be flown within 2 miles of any airport. RC plane clubs don't fly near them, why fly a drone any differently.

Hmmm since I own the space above my land should be albe to shoot it down. If it going to be able to fly higher then it comes under vfr and ifr rules.

I sorta think that'd make you some trouble. Could you shoot a car that accidentally turned down your driveway? This ties into trespassing laws....I don't know any that allow the death sentence or destruction of anothers property because of simple trespassing. We touched on this a couple years ago when some CSR gun slingers were going to blow the head off any body that steps over their property line.:smt043

As far as Sfergs comment on closing the curtains....we shouldn't have to. Wouldn't a drone/camera looking in your window make the operator a Peeping Tom.

I am buying one to take videos and stills of our club events. Some of these concerns came up when I proposed this. "What about privacy"? The drone camera is for club events only and is not to be directed over any other boats or people. Hell, look at your phone! Anyone can snap a photo with their phone at any time without your knowledge. I would shoot one down if it came over my house too!

I can see how it can be a fun hobbie, however using one to spy on people can be intrusive. I am not for regulations on them, but with that said I am sure there are already laws about filming people intruslivly on their property. As for where I live it is legal for me to shoot on my land. A drone over my place will be fired at.
My vote is no regs, Big Brother is big enough.

Great tools for interesting photography and video but I can see some people abusing the use, paparazzi already are.
I am thinking no regulation, just open season around private property.
Fly them around my house or boat while relaxing out on the lake and I am with Do Over:

N.C. state government has recently passed some new laws that greatly restrict legal use of drones...something you might want to check in your area!:wow:

N.C. drone law
The new law governing drone use in the state:
§ Prohibits any person or state agency from using a drone to conduct surveillance of a person, an occupied dwelling or private property without the consent of the owner.
§ Bans using a drone to photograph someone without that person’s consent. It does, however, make an exception for photographs of “news worthy events” or places where the public is invited — a provision added at the behest of broadcasters.
§ Allows law enforcement to use drones in the case of a risk of terrorist attack, if the agency obtains a search warrant, to prevent “imminent danger to life,” or to pursue a suspect or missing person.
§ Bans the use of infrared or thermal imaging technology, except for scientific, agricultural or wildlife management purposes.
§ Allows any person photographed inappropriately to seek $5,000 in damages for each photograph or video taken.
§ Makes it a felony to use an unmanned aircraft with a weapon attached. Using a drone to hunt or fish will be a misdemeanor, as will publishing images taken with infrared technology on an unmanned aerial vehicle.
§ Requires drone operators to have a license, which will be issued by the state.

I like all but the $5K damages and needing a license.

Twenty years ago, I wouldn't have had near the issues with this. But, we live in a different time. I'm on camera at work all day, and tracked RF. The internet, cell technology, and conveniences we love are also a terroist delivery medium. I used to never look over my shoulder, but I do love the technology.

Just my thought here...

If you can Fly it, I can shoot it down! Drone Hunting Season from the first of June till the first of Dec.... All summer long!
I can also jam its frequency and you (the operator) can catch the photos as it crashes into the ground

just my thoughts
