What Mods do you have planned for the winter?

Shut up.

I have two more months.

(I will get 4/5 of mine done.... no watermaker this year.)

I can give a long list of excuses but that's pointless... (death in the family, injuring myself, the fish were biting, etc.)

I managed to get my side stripes off this weekend before the weather shut me down *again*. Grrr...

Anyhow, a friend gave me a 1 gallon paint can of 3M adhesive removal stuff - the USN is testing it on aircraft. Basically it's hand cleaner (i.e. goop) without the grit. This stuff is MAGIC. I spread about a 1/8" layer over the stripes using a plastic putty knife, covered the stuff up with plastic wrap, and went to lunch. Half an hour later the stripes came off clean, and left virtually no adhesive behind. It could not have been easier.

I'm planning on running "nekkid" this year, and may have some sort of striping painted on next season...we'll see.

The old stripes had to come off as the original owner kept her in a sling lift and the stripes were all eaten up at the sling points.

Winter projects

1. I/O Bellows and gimbal bearings, check raw ater system for air leaks (being done as I write)

2. Replace faux wood gauge panels with teak & install Smartcraft 5000 monitor (done attached picture)

3. replace throttle & shift control + cables (maybe next year)

4. add second depth sounder for smartcraft setup (on the fence between fishfinder level and basic depth/temp function, but will have decide soon as we go in the water May 3)

5. Don't want to, but probably should, change the valves in the vacum pump for the head after the holding tank has had a winter to disipate. (done, actually not all that hard. Using painter's mask with charcoal filters works wonders)

6. Go to the boat show - Done and I even didn't buy anything major

All in all a pretty productive winter.

Added underwater exhausts so we are current with the latest 3200 design, and another set of Racor fuel filters to deal with any adverse effects of e10 we might inadvertantly pick up when traveling to Illinois, Wisconsin and Canada.

I thought Tiara would have already had extra Racor fuel filters... My Sea Ray came with 2 per engine...

Henry - the wood dash looks really nice. Where did you get the teak that size and what did you finish it with?

Travis,

Thank you. I got the stock which is Burmese teak from a local specialty wood supplier here in Massachusetts. I believe that they will ship to retail consumers. If you need contact info, PM me and I will send the details.

The actual panel is made from two pieces of 4/4 stock edge glued with biscuits and epoxy. It was then planed to 5/8" thick.

The finish is an exterior grade poly (8 coats) with successive sanding between coats. The top coat was sanding with a 2000 grit pad followed by a hard fiber pad and a final buff with a beeswax coating.

Winter Projects:

1. "Bag" alarms on exhaust risers.
2. 110 volt engine room lighting.
3. Pin hole repair in exhaust elbow.
4. Triple air horn on hardtop.
5. New carpet throughout cabin.
6. Air compressor quick connect in cockpit shower cabinet.
7. Overhead electronics cabinet.
8. GPS source selector wiring for nav/autopilot.
9. MP3 player aux input for Clarion system.
10. New (white) windshield cover.
11. Seaview windshield insert for flybridge.
12. Sissy bar for tender.

Did you get the carpet done? Any pictures? How hard were the cabins? Did you re carpet under the beds?

We will be starting the carpet in the next week or 2. It's a fairly straight forward job and we will not do under the beds or floor hatches. Looks like about 27 yards for the interior.

Out of morbid curiosity, I had one outfit quote on teak & holly (the real stuff, all hand fitted separate boards). At $150 per square foot, the project would cost about $35K.

Carpet it is. We may do Flexiteek for the cockpit & flybridge.

I have measured drawings if you need them.
