What Mods do you have planned for the winter?

I plan to add Plasteek wood grain siding on the hull, above the waterline.

Well, since mine was a victim of some cosmetic damage due to a very unfortunate marina fire, the list is long... Thank God for insurance!

Replace all isinglass
Replace Convertible Top
Replace Backdrop Canvas
Replace Dinghy Cover
Replace cockpit vinyl
clean (and after the stains don't come out, replace) cabin carpet (Firehose pressure ripped some of the isinglass right off, and I got a lot of sooty water in the companionway steps and down to the cabin)

Things I am having done-
New Extended Swim Platform
Hurley Davits
Boots and a gimbal job...

I hoping to convince JAndrewG to visit New Jersey....with his woodworking tools....

Merry Christmas....

The admiral decided to see how easy it would be to pull out the carpet in the cabin. Fortunately for me it's OLD, 21+ years old. It started to come out pretty easy. She pulled up about 2 feet, then quit and proclaimed, "This will be an easy job for you!" ARRRGGGGHHHHH
Yes it comes up easy in the worn high-traffic area but not as much so elsewhere.

That was the beginning of the end of my last project boat. Everywhere I went "pulling" the carpeting was under something, and that spot didn't seem like a good place to cut and seam so I started removing everything. Then the cabin was empty. Then I needed a new this and that while the cabin was gutted. Finally the project just became overwhelmingly expensive and time-consuming so I took an offer on the engines/drives that I couln't refuse, junked the hull, snatched the trailer, and picked up a newer used boat. :)

This time I'll be much more careful. I think I'll go with the PlasTeak floor. I like chemically engineered synthetic products. It also has a nice explosive ring to it.

Oh and the arch is on. Winter project part 1. I finally had the rear brackets fabbed (not yet installed in pic). It can be folded back by removing one bolt on each side in the front. Now I just need to mount the Radome on there.

Is the VHF antenna worth relocating higher and onto the arch? Underway it always points straight up of course. :)

Mike,

If you're serious, I would consider running the first planks from the bottom, parallel to the water line.

Other Mike - no fans for me. Just brain-storming. I understand that this would change the protection properties of the breaker. But, I do like the water idea!

Well getting the planks parallel to the water line will take more photoshop time than I'm willing to spend. The look is better than I would have imagined. I wonder if a wood grained gel coat treatment would look nice on the right boat. Maybe one of those new Chris Craft run-abouts.

I'm also thinking of fabricating a Plasteek dragon's head to mount to the bow and/or a figurehead. Everything has to be Plasteek. Just losing my mind up here waiting for the spring maiden voyage.

But seriously, the woodgrain actually looks pretty good in the photo. With today's computer graphics and a clearcoat of gelcoat, the simulation could be very realistic and durable.

Well, now that it's Christmas, I've managed to get the winterization and in water shrink wrap done so that leaves the following:

-New cockpit carpet from Snap In Carpet
-New side isinglass panels
-Thorough canvas cleaning and sealing
-Possible new extended swim platform from swimplatforms.com - Does anyone have any experience with the one for the 250DA? Is it as easy to heave a middle age body onto the platform as on the standard one? I really like that grab handle on the transom
-Maybe a DSC VHF to replace the on DSC original
-Finally get the name on the transom

Hope everyone got what they wanted for Christmas!

Mike
