Quick question. I read a great thread about compounding and polishing. The Makita was listed quite a bit, but I don't know the model that is being referred. I also saw the PC which appears to be better for polishing versus compound.

Thanks for any help.

It is going to be a long winter up North.

I have been using Makita since 1980 and use it for my cars and boat. The model number today for what I use is the Makita 9227C-X3 Polisher... Love it. Nice balance. I use 900 rpm or less to cut and 600 or less to buff out... using 3M finesse...

thanks,

I have started putting together a document on tools, pads, and wax/polish. I figure by march I will have everything in order and ready to go. I would like to find a way of ordering larger bottles of compound and wax.

great website. I saw quite a few items that have been discussed before on this site (303 protectant).

Santa will be busy this year.

Thanks

I use the Cyclo on my cars and boats. With the brushes it can clean you carpets as well. Nice snap in foam pads with a compound one one side and polish pad on the other.

Probably the most expensive polisher made, but will not burn and will last you a lifetime. I highly recommend it and have been using it for over 10 years now.

Hi Mike,

Wow, that's a heavy polisher doing a 30+ ft. boat!

I like the write-up, but with an overall length of 33'6" plus extended swim platform, my arms would fall off. I have the PC and Mikita on order. I will use them this year and if they burn, I will then look into this option.

Thanks for the advise.

Lol....if you do it right your arms are going to fall off anyway :smt043

I have a Cyclo in my arsenal and it is a great machine. You will also be well covered with the Porter Cable & Matika.

Tip: Everything looks great in the shade. It's not until the sun hits it that you know how good of a job you're doing. Do a small area in the shade first then try & let the sun hit it.

Porter Cable 7424 polisher's are popular as well. There is a similar polisher 7430 but as I relcall it is not an ellipitcal. The ellipitcal model is very well respected and has RPMs to 6000. Also very good for wet sanding gelcoast when things are just too far gone for wax, or you want to remove an old boat name shadow.

These are light weight polishers and made for professional use.
