Right now on my 240SD I have the dealer installed Anchor and rope.

I found a 500 Foot roll of 1/2in braided poly rope for $60 don't know if that's a good deal or not but is this the kind of rope I should use? is 1/2in big enough or to big?

I also was considering putting some chain (rubber coated of course) on the anchor and switching to a Fortress anchor.

What kind of chain and what size should I use. How do I connect all these items together.

Thanks for the help.

Buy nylon anchor rope/rode for speced for the size and weight of your boat ... 3/8 inch to 1/2 inch should be plenty ... I would not use poly rope !!

Morph;

I have 6 feet of 1/2 vinyl coated anchor chain that I picked up at West marine attached to 1/2 Nylon anchor rope.

I did this the first season I had my boat cause I found I would have to power sink my anchor on some of the hard sand bottoms before it would grab.

now it grabs right where I drop it, thanks to the weight of the chain.

hope this helps.

Thanks Tom sounds exactly like what I need since we boat in the same area :smt001

Question though, how long should I get, and when I do the stern anchor should I just duplicate the bow anchor or should it be different?

Thanks

I think I have about 150' of rode and normally deploy about 70' feet of it when anchoring is 4-6' of water.

as for the rear anchor, yup make it a copy of the bow anchor except for 1 thing, Dont put the chain on it. remember that you'll be manually taking it ashore most of the time and dragging 6 feet of anchor chain can be a Pain.

Also since you'll have a match for the bow anchor, you'll also have a backup just in case you loose you're bow anchor.

Poly rope is really not your best choice. It will degrade faster in sunlight and it's a lot weaker than nylon.

In general three stand is used because it stretches more than braided. You should also not get line that too thin because it's tough on your hands and it tangles easier. If the line is too thick it won't stretch enough. I used 3/8 on my 260 BR.

If you don't have a windlass, I'd go with braided. It will stretch plenty and is much easier to handle.
