I meant that the green wire is for the purpose of posting a CSR topic. Maybe the coffee hasn't kickied in for me yet?

What do the other wires run to?

Does your wiring schematic indicate and open/spare wire?

Jack looks back to the BOMB, goes to it, wipes sweat off his
face. He starts finger the MANY WIRES, sorting them.

TYLER
I wouldn't be doing that. Unless you
know which wires, in what order...

JACK
If you know, I know.

Jack holds his gun under one armpit, uses both hands to go
through the tangle of colored wires.

TYLER
Or... maybe I knew you'd know, so I
spent the whole day thinking about
the wrong ones.

Jack chooses one wire, GREEN, holds it in his fingers.

JACK
If I'm wrong, we're both dead..

TYLER
This is not about martyrdom.

Jack twists the GREEN WIRE around his finger.

JACK
I'm pulling the green wire.

TYLER
Green? Did you say green?

Tyler comes a little closer, leaning to try to get a look,
seems genuinely concerned.

JACK
Yes...

TYLER
Don't pull the green wire. Pull
anything but the green wire.

JACK
F@&k you.

TYLER
I'm serious. That's the wrong one.

Jack's unsure, swallowing, pulling the wire taunt, fingers
trembling. The SOUND of a VEHICLE is HEARD from below...

Were there any options offered for your boat that you don't have? That might give a clue.

Can you trace the other end of the wire and see where it terminates? Maybe a blank ACC switch?

Dominic,
thanks for the response. My dash has those little openings like in the picture so it is hard to trace without taking it apart. My owners manual doesn't show any extra wires on the ignition switch harness. My marine radio was connected to the red/black wires of the keypad switch and I think that is why my EIM got fried by the lightning strike. I'm looking for a new place to hook up the marine radio and I guess I was thinking this green wire might be like you are thinking...a possible access point. Also curious after finding it there last night.

Don't worry. You can't get hit by lightning again - What's the chances of that?

Green is usually a bonding wire......its purpose is clearly shown on your wiring diagram if you have or can find one. My guess is that it goes to some optional equipment your particular boat does not have.

Lightning struck a tree about 30 feet away and I think it jumped to the VHF antenna. probably because it wasn't straight up and down!

okay Gary...what does bonding wire mean?

I am finding some reference to green/white wire in the engine harness diagram associated with fire extinguisher. It looks like it has white on in the picture but I would have to get back under the dash to double check. I'll do that later.

bonding wires make up the grounding system of your boat and usually all eventually lead to a big old zinc anode mounted on the transom below the water line. it could be a ground lead for something you may want to hook up at some later date (12v plug, an accessory, etc.) put a meter on it and check for continuity with something that's grounded or with the negative terminal on your battery. if there's continuity, it's a bonding wire.

or maybe it's for an ejector seat switch or torpedo launch (?)

You might also break out a magnifying glass. Sea Ray prints the name of the circuit on the harness wires. The pink one that runs from the fuel tank sender to gauge has 'fuel' printed on it in tiny letters.
