What does everyone do for a living?

I'm a NY Times, WSJ, and USA Today bestselling author of 6 books on business development and communication (a few aren't half bad) but I really just want to be a delivery captain.

While I give speeches at corporate conferences on my books and show up on TV news programs as a talking head offering my bloated opinions, my two companies deliver training and consulting. We also hold our own events around the world.

My staff and clients are so sick of listening to me talk about boating. I've tried to tamp down on my boating analogies in my work but more often than not, I just can't help myself.

P.S. I spend most of my time on this site reading your posts and marveling at your technical skills. If I can process 50% of the advanced technical advice offered, it's been a good day. Engineers amaze me and never cease to impress me.

I'm a sales professional for a regional technology integration company. We focus on audio/video systems, access control and network management. I've always been in the sales/marketing side of business, doing everything from owning my own AV/Home Theater e-commerce company to being a Senior Sales/Marketing VP in a Fortune 500 company. I really enjoy being a sales guy because it gives me flexibility on my schedule, and most importantly it lets me control my own income.

I just bought my first boat in 30 years or so (2008 195 Sport). I try to reward myself for my success with toys or treats for myself and family. Two years ago I bought a new SUV, last year we built a new house, and this year's reward for a good 2015 was the boat! It's my way of motivating myself, and having fun in the process.

I've only been a member here for a short time, but I'm thankful for all the knowledge that's here and I hope to learn a lot and contribute in the future!

I am a real estate investor and own a real estate investing franchise in the Boston area named Homevestors. Some of you may have seen our billboards throughout the country, they are yellow and red and say "We buy ugly houses". As well as flipping houses I have residential rental property and we mentor new franchises as they come into the system.
I have been in this business with my college room mate as my business partner since the year after we graduated college in 2001.

Fire Department Deputy Chief, 23 years of service. Started a Marine Canvas business to help fund my boating habit when I retire in a few years.

I've been accused of being a pilot but for those who know the lingo, I am listed in A006 of the Ops Specs for our company (70+ aircraft). I also tote a gun and badge for an agency and have done so for 18 years.

VP of Sales & Marketing for a printing company. Luckily we are not run of the mill paper pushers. We do a lot of printing on plastics and other sub straights. It makes the industry much more exciting. We have quite a few national retail chains we produce for including AutoZone, Walgreens, Walmart, etc.

OK, this is definitely the most intriguing job description thus far.

I bang my head against a wall. Facilities Director for private educational concern. Age 2 through high school.

Was a corporate VP of Manufacturing and Engineering for a fortune 400 apparel maker, prior to that, I owned a top tier general management and engineering consulting firm and a machine shop (building specialty machinery for apparel makers) specializing in saving apparel companies from self destruction.............retired early and now spend most of my time either on the water or trying to help you guys enjoy your boats.

I'm a linguist. I manage a translation company specializing in technical translation into foreign languages! So if you buy products with those annoying instruction or assembly manuals in multiple languages, that potentially could be us!

Engineering Manager for a tier 1 automotive glass supplier for the last 4 years. The 20 years before that I was owner of 2 different system integration companies.

Web Application Developer, Systems Analyst, all around geek.

I started as an electrician then had my own contracting business that rolled into a partnership in a general contracting firm. I went back to my electrical roots as a Project Manager and currently work as a Senior Project Manager for a Wisconsin based GC managing the electrical, systems, elevators (25 of them) and other fun stuff for a new hospital in San Francisco that is about 1M square feet and will cost $1.3 billion to build when complete. I too would rather be delivering boats, maybe in retirement!

Sold main line sewer & water pipe for about 20 yrs then I got into Heavy equipment sales. Been in Construction sales pretty much my entire career except for about 6 years in the 90's when I ran a Yo-Yo manufacturing operation. Talk about a business that was up & down...

Retired, Owned car dealership for 20 years prior. Now working as part time boat broker.

I started out looking for work in the marine mechanics and small equipment repair as that is what I spent my college years learning. Other than assembling new boats for final delivery I never really worked that field much. Landscape equipment repair has evolved into landscaping which has evolved into project contracting 25 years later. Sometimes running equipment, sometimes repairing it, More often than not being foreman on various outdoor projects. Karen and I are recently working out plans to become real estate investors full time as we have done a couple of projects on the side and really enjoyed them.

Sales Rep for BSN Sports the largest sporting goods equipment and apparel dealer in the country. I sell Nike, UA as well as many other brands. We produce uniforms for College, High School and youth programs as well as all the balls and bats etc.
Also own a couple of income properties and officiate High School and Jr. hockey to help fund the habit on the water.

I'm in IT - almost 30yrs, have worked for a couple of large banks, and insurance company, a partner in a TPA / 401k Recordkeeping firm and now with a large brokerage firm (a common name, not Fidelity or TD Ameritrade, but if you watch golf you see our ads every weekend). Have done about everything IT related over the years. I manage the 401k Recordkeeping infrastructure that we host for our TPA and Bank Trust clients - I hope this is my last job.

My wife always says that the more words it takes to say what you do, the less important it is (Doctor, Lawyer, CEO) - as you can see it took two sentences for me, so I guess it's not very important - but I like it. It's provided a nice place to live, food on the table, a few boats and educated my kids, so I guess no complaints.
