Hey all

First year with the boat and just wondering what others pay to get thier boats winterized and stored. The qoutes I've gotten so far are between $1200 and $1500 CND. I really don't know if that is reasonable or should I continue shopping around.

Thanks for any advise

Cheers

My dealer has quoted me $120 to winterize my engine. I don't have any water systems that need attention.

As for storage, I have access to a private, indoor storage area that will save me $$$.

Marinas in our area are charging (approximately) the following:

Indoor / cold - $3.45 per sq ft
Indoor / heated - $6.95 per sq ft
Outdoor - $13 per linear foot (shrinkwrap extra)

Hope this gives you an idea.

I would always check around to make sure what's included and to see who is competitive.

Millerman,

Will be paying $750 for stroage, winterizing, and powerwash. Boat will be on its own trailer, storage us covered, but unheated. No watersystems to care for.

$595 in West Michigan for boats to 26 feet. This includes power washing the bottom, pump out, bunking and spring luanch. We don't winterize anything as it is insided heated with emergency power if need be. Boats over 26 feet are $5.95 a square foot. Bow pulpits and swim platforms are not counted. Again, haul out, pump out, power washing and bunking are included as is spring launch.

It's usually around $200 to winterize the engine. That also includes an oil change. I do the water system myself and store it on the trailer under a shelter and super heavy tarp. I think you just have to find out what that includes. I'm guessing they are going to shrink wrap your boat for that price? While it's a great way to seal it up for the winter, it's not really necessary and there are other alternatives. It depends on the owner I guess. I bought a 40 x 60 foot tarp in 2002 and it's still going strong. I think I paid $100 for it. It's a hay tarp used by truckers to cover the load. It's silver and black with two inch nylon straps every four feet to secure it. It's not going anywhere and will probably last a long time! I build an A-frame over the boat and then secure the tarp over the top.

I'm sure it all depends on location in the country, but I winterize my engine and water myself. I do have the pros pull the outdrive though. $100+ any parts if needed.
Indoor storage, no heat, on my trailer is $240. (Oct.-Apr.). $10 a foot, and they don't measure the front of the trailer :)
The problem I have with where I store it though is, sometimes, they'll have to move boats around. This means I can't leave my outdrive down. :(

Prices from local marinas: $180+ winterize engine. Does not include oil change, or outdrive lube change.
Pull outdrive and grease $100
Winterize fresh water $80 or $140 w/ air
Shrinkwrap $14 ft.

$18/ft to pull out, wash the bottom, block on land and spring launch. So for my 30' it's $540 to store it. 10/ft to shrink wrap + zipper door.

I winterize the boat myself. If I didn't the costs would be:
$65/engine oil change
$45/transmission fluid
$20/fuel/water seperater
$95/engine to winterize
$50/water sytem
$45/air condition
for a twin engine thats $545 + the $540 to store + 300+ for wrap.

My winterization rates in Ohio: Gas engine 100.00 includes material, Then I winterize the entire rest of the boat for another 100.00(air cond.,plumbing, head, washer, ice maker etc). Indoor cold storage 2.50 a sq ft. Indoor heated 6.00 sq ft., Haul out, scrub bottom and launch included in storage price. We store 100's of boats.

REMEMBER you guys, even in heated storage to drain the engines of water. I just replaced a 5000.00 dollar v-drive because the guy let the water sit in the engine for 5 years worth of storage. The acids ate holes in the copper oil coolers allowing water into the transmision oil and tossing the v-drive. I charge 50.00 an engine to drain and fog them in heated storage. Don't let that water just sit and eat your engine all winter.

You inland guys are depressing me.

In Jersey, I paid $200 for oil change (each engine), plus another $300 for winterization work (including head). Boat haulout and blocking runs $150. Outdrive maintenance shows up on the Spring bill.

And this is with the cheap *no name* guys.

Thanks for all the input. With the information you all provided I was able to know a bit about what I was talking about and got the following arranged.
- pressure washed and waxed, all fluids and filters changed and or stabilized including lower unit, fogged, water system, water heater, batteries, waste and I'm sure a number of other things I'm forgetting.
-Shrink wrapped and stored for 7 months
-Spring relaunch.

The original qoute from this marina (which is ideally where I wanted to be) was $1459.00 but after being armed with your info was able to work $1200 even.

So thanks to all, I owe ya a beer

Cheers

Just got my winter storage agreement from the marina I use. It will be about $650 for dry rack storage which does not include shrink wrap and pulling the drive and storing that in doors (heated). Believe this will be another $250 or so but haven't called them to find out yet.

My local MM dealer gave the following $$ for my 240DA

$502.00 oil change, winterize motor, remove drive and stabilize fuel
$348.00 shrink wrap
$216.00 haul and clean
$408.00 rack storage for winter

Total= $1549.00

I know I can save a couple of hundred elsewhere but I have a level of trust with these guys that is probably worth the extra money. And if it needs anything under warranty it's there for them to fix.
