If I match the location on my two throttles so they are even then my tachs don't match and are off by 200-300 rpm. So do I match the RPMs or the throttles? Cummins 6CTA's

I would match the tachs before I did the throttles, but neither are very reliable until they have been verified. A service tech can verify the tach readings and from there, you can adjust the throttle positions to make them match if you care to. Do you have any other indications to go by? Fuel flow?

Maybe you can call the Cullins rep for advice? Check the engine description in your signature.

Throttle lever position doesn't mean anything (as long as the cables are properly adjusted)- mine don't line up, either.
Like Hampton said, you need to verify the tach readings if they're analog. Unless you need service for something else, you can get a photo tach for around $150 and DIY for less than the cost of the service call...

Since knowing exact RPMS is far more important for diesel engines than gas, I suggest you consider replacing the analog tachs with Aetna digital tachs, dead-on accurate and no calibration is necessary out of the box.

I'm really new at this but I have all analogs and gas engines. I go off of the synch guage and sound and take the lower of the two tachs as the one to read off of. They are seldom the same on each run.
