They are all fellow Marines. Happy 231st birthday to the United States Marine Corps Semper Fi!

Walts: It's clear you're proud of the Marine Corps. That's terrific, but your post has little to do with boating? I'm hoping we can avoid irrelevant (although arguably important) posts which often plagued the SRO board.

This does fall under the general discussion. Enough said.

Oh, Marines only get there after they hitch a ride with the Navy. Go Navy! :smt043 See it has everything to do with boating! :smt043

Happy 231st Birthday. :smt038

Maybe we need to create a members only lounge like a couple of other boards where you pay for the privilege of talking about anything you want to. :smt017

However please be open minded enough to realize that General Discussion is just that, General Discussion. Don't know any reason there can't be any dialog that strays from boating a little bit when it's talked about by boating people. Take jokes for example, what if I start a joke thread, do they all have to be about boating?

As always participation is not mandatory or obligatory to anyone and short of someone cussing and fussing I don't see anything particular wrong with someone posting a nugget of information about anything useful. I am sorry you don't see it that way and I respect your opinion but I simply don't see a good reason to remove this post. :smt024

Hey Stihl,

Well said.

Happy Birthday to the Marines, but they have to thank the Navy for getting them to wherever they have to go!!

Thanks too to all of you "clubbers" who are presently serving or have served our great nation in the past.

Thank you to the Army, Navy, Air force and Marines....and the USCG because we as boaters do need them too. Now it's a boating topic
Thunderbird.....if the title doesn't reference boating don't open it. that way we're not wasting your time.

Gotta agree with ya Stihl. On other boards I visit, the 'general discussion' is just for that. It seems the topic should be indicative as to whether it is something one is interested in reading or not. It is also the reason for having all the other forums headings. I enjoy reading other's opinions, thoughts, perspectives, etc from across the country as long as it doesnt get into personal bashing, flaming etc. JMO

And my hats off and thanks to all our service people!

Happy Birthday to the Marines. This same message is opened on several other boards in the general discussion area, in fact Walts did one of them.

I'm not certain how this offended anyone. Marines will and do go out of their way to wish one another a happy birthday. My lead was to pique interest and to show the different personalitys. Once a Marine, always a Marine.

Amen Walt :smt038 It is thanks to these folks (and other branches) for all they do to keep us free and safe. It has EVERYTHING to do with boating since we are free to enjoy our hobbies (i.e. boating) unlike some other countries who never would get this opportunity for enjoyment....

Stihlbolts: So you won't mind when I post my rant about how wonderful it is to see Republicans (finally!) out of power, or how I think we spend way too much money on the Military, or that guns and boating don't mix? Flag burning? Oh, and don't even get me started regarding Presdent Bush and the goofy religious right.

These topics are all divisive and do not belong here.

I think if you want to post something, post what you want (under the right subject, of course!)!! If you get replys, great, if not....so sorry!

A post is only as good as the reply's you get back! If you wish to post stupid stuff, do it and see what you get back! Read only what you want!

Whoa...he's just wishing the Marines a happy birthday. Plenty of subjects get off topic, but this board does a good job of staying on the topic of boating. If you don't agree with a particular topic, move on to another, there is plenty to read here.

BrentJones: My last word on this topic. You're right. For the most part we have stayed on topic.

Let me spell it out for you in clear and non divisive terms. :smt024

Attitude and context is everything. You want to show your tail on a soap box about polictics then it might lead to the divisive discussion that becomes unwelcome. If you bring up that Senator Rick Santorum was trying kill NOAA Funding so his benifactor could sell us NOAA weather information on a XM/SIRUS type system and and make money while we were already paying for that service with our taxes and you found that offensive I would have no problems with that as long as it does not turn abusive.

So lets not make a mountain out of a ant hill. It's a simple birthday wish, nothing more.

Well said Stihl.

T-Bird, I think your last comments were way out line - it was a simple birthday wish, and no one is holding a gun to your head to read this thread.

To get back on topic - this former squid wishes his Marine brethern (including my stepfather and step brother) a very happy birthday.

Thanks for the reminer Walt

Since no one asked, any idea what rank Bozo was?

It would crack me up if he was a drill sergeant :smt043
