What Can a 240 Sundeck Handle?

Ok I think I understand now. I probably should have thought more before I asked the original question. I guess it just depends on my experience and personal judgement. I probably won't take it anywhere where swells could be an issue anyway. I was just kind of curious.

Don't be such a sissy.. The Somalia Pirates cruise the ocean fearlessly in this. Look how happy they are.

Ice, You're absolutely correct when you say it depends on your experience and personal judgement.

One problem with that is when you have limited experience your judgment of what constitutes safe water conditions might be different from someone like me who has boated for over 50 years.

I grew up on Lk Huron and we often were on the water in 2'-3' waves in a 16' Thompson with a 50hp Johnson.

If you have a bow cover and camper canvas that will do a lot to keep out wind blown spray, and the occasional blast of green water that comes over the bow. They're not designed for keeping large amounts of green water out of the boat.

The 240 Sundeck is a well built boat and I would feel comfortable in it in 3'-4' waves. Five footers might be questionable; it would depend on the distance from crest to crest and how "confused" the waves were.

The best answer is to learn your boat, try it in 3' waves and see how it handles. When your confidence and experience build uip you'll be in a much better position to judge what is safe for you and your passengers.

I was thinking the same thing. Take it in a little rougher water each time to learn my way around things and find out what feels right and what feels like too much for me to handle. Most of my boating will be in smaller local lakes anyway so I don't think I have to worry too much.

Why would you want to go out in heavy seas...Doesn't seem like much fun to me. In that size boat I would think 1/2 mile or less from shore.

Plus the fact they can capture a 800 foot plus freighter!
