We have received allot of rain here in south Florida over the past 24 hours. When I woke up this morning, I noticed the 28 foot Donzi across the canal from me had come off its lift and was sinking.

The first pic was at about 7:40 AM

By 9:30, it was sunk completely

By 11:30, Sea Tow was at the scene

By 1:00 it was floated and by 1:20 it was gone

Apparently, the deck drains had clogged and the boat filled with water, causing her to sink.

My take on this is .....
You watched that boat sink and did nothing to help the owner out !!. :wow:

Are you kidding me? Do you know what I did or didn't do? Do you know that I contacted the owner immediately regarding this situation? Do you know what could or couldn't be done? Tell me, when a boat is sinking right in front of you, what can you do to stop it?

I'm just reading along here like everyone else..........and I didn't see anything in Summer Fun's post that indicated anything but criticism about a situation he knew nothing about.

When a boat breaks one end of a lift, there is almost nothing you can do to stop its sinking, or to stop it taking on enough water to free itself from the lift mechanism. To get on the boat or to try to free it from the lift is extremely dangerous to the persons involved. Furthermore, that area is privately owned residences and going to the boat that is taking on water with no risk to humans would be trespassing on private property. The owner might be grateful or he may try to hold you responsible for damage to the boat because all you could do it let it sink enough to free it from the lift then tie it to his dock.

I think Randy did the right thing....he called the owner and made him aware of the sinking boat. The owner, I might add, made the best decision possible. He called the professionals to free and refloat the boat.

As a side note, when you boat in a place like Florida with lots of water and 12 months a year available for enjoying boating, you see all manner of neglect, idiocy, stupidity, absence of common sense, etc. You just cannot save everyone from themselves........life isn't long enough. What you can (or get the marine patrol or USCG) do is educate them when you see them endangering lives.

Calling the owner and notifying him of what is happening is a LOT more than 90% of the public would do these days. And I agree, the last thing I would do is try to get on board or on his property and try to help without being asked first. In the sue-happy world we live in its not worth it. Nice guys finish last.

Chould be, dead battery, bilage pump didn't work, boat got some water in it overtime and over loaded the lift, broke it and fell into the water and sunk. If somebody would have took some time to make sure there equipment was up to par, this wouldn't have happed.

sounds like a new job, move to fla. go knock on peoples doors and give $150.00 mini surveys.Could be big money in that.
