So quick backstory. Sold my 33 dancer a few month back. I am cleaning out the garage and of course finding parts. I was given a spare set of props with the bot boat a little clueless as to what they are worth. They are 1.25” shaft 17x17 dyna jet bronze props. One is brand new in box the the other is a reconditioned one which is also new in the box so to speak. Not sure what the set is worth? Should I just Craigslist them?

Here and elsewhere I see recon props of that general type get plenty of interest in the $500 - $800 range which seems like a steal when you consider the cost new.

One of yours is new so you should aim high.

So nobody else thinks the fair thing to do is to include them with the boat, especially since he got them with the boat?

It’s only fair if the buyer knows the props exist. Yes it would be nice but if you (the seller) were not happy enough with the sale price it’s another boat buck in your wallet.

If you bought land, and found buried treasure on it, do you include it when you sell the land the next time:p

completely unrelated. My understanding from people experienced in the Boat world is that the Boating equipment that goes with the boat stays with the boat.

I know of at least three situations were sellers call Byers after the fact and offered them props after the sale one of them even had a really good price and all of the sellers were told words that begin with F and Y...

How can 'fairness' be questioned in this situation? He didn't 'got them' with the boat, he paid for them when he bought the boat, they weren't free.

I have certainly given away plenty of gear with a boat, and even a spare set of Bravo 3 props with different pitch for elevation. I have never felt morally obligated, just wanted to share the blessings that I have been given.

When I sell a boat...what’s on it is what you get

Agreed. The original props from my boat are sitting in a prop shop, for sale via consignment. While buying the boat, I learned he just put new props on it. When I asked if he had the original - nope.

He did give me his dinghy davits, as they wouldn't fit his new boat. After letting the dinghy davits and bow cushions from my last boat sit and gather dust (for 5 years, unused), I sold both of them this summer off the boat I bought in 2019. Much better off being used by someone than me hoping the kids and dogs don't mess them up!

Since they fit the boat you just sold, you could call and offer them at a reduced price. But I'd just assume list them on Ebay and get some money out of them. It'd be a different thing had you included them in your sale listing.

He sold the boat a few months ago.... the props are his

I would start at $500 each

He should’ve kept the tables and the poles, the sun pads off the bow. All that would sell real well here on the site. All that belongs to him. We can have differing opinions on what should be left with a boat...

I have bought a few used boats over the years and they Are typically bare bone...no ropes, no life jackets, no safety equipment

this current boat.... the guy left a lot of stuff on it....when he came to sign the papers he said he left a few personal items on the boat....so I said no problem. He picked the boat clean.... including prop wrenches, spare parts etc. I complained to the broker and he said He would get the stuff back.... but I was like screw it ....I got such a good deal let him have the stuff... broker never saw anything like it.

Same here and the black water tank is invariably full to the rancid brim. What’s wrong with people?

When I sell them they’re spotless and fully equipped only needing a signature or two. They sell fast too.

In my opinion, there's a big difference. What's on the boat when you show it vs when you deliver it. Personal effects aside (custom towels, pillows, other soft goods), if it's shown on the boat, it should go with the boat.

Spare props, spare parts, e.t.c are all bonus if they weren't included with the listing. On the 33' I sold a few years ago, the Magma grill and Taylor Made flag pole became bargaining chips for the buyer.

Completely different. Tables and bow cushions are one of a kind items that were standard equipment on the boat in the way a steering wheel is. They are part of the equipment that always stays with the boat. If they were lost or destroyed prior to sale that’s another issue.

Spare props are just that - spares. If they were not included with the listing they are personal property and can be offered for sale however desired. I’d put it in the same category as an aftermarket bbq grill. I would not expect spare props to be included in a sale.

When my boat sold I included all fenders (including 2 really nice new ones), a water hose, shore power cable, a full complement of life jackets, a complete (new) flare kit, and 6 1/2 inch dock lines. When the brokage collected the boat they also took ALL of my newish lines off the dock so I had none left to secure my new boat. I found that unreasonable so complained and was given a replacement set.

He sold the boat then found the props months later. If they weren’t included in the original sale why would you track the new owner down to give them away? The boat had propellers installed when it sold I’m sure. Isn’t that what matters?
