Wet sounds vs JL audio

Wet sounds has a new head unit with multiple zone control as well as LED controller. great unit. Installing one this weekend if weather gets better out here in NY. I install all brands. Wet Sounds comparable amps have more power and run slightly more efficient.

I just bout this JL set up. Will let you know how it sounds

Just added a Alpine 5 channel amp to power 4 Wet Sounds REVO6 speakers, and a Wet Sounds 10" Free Air subwoofer in the cockpit. This new audio system sounds awesome!!

No contest, go with a 10" at least or even a 12". Not only does the larger woofer deliver deeper bass, its greater surface area yields greater output, without the need for additional amp power. Larger woofer is just more efficient.

Beyond that, until you list some details, you are just comparing brand names that offer multiple speaker and amp options. Both are top tier quality, to not much of a debate in this department. But with some details, you can then begin to compare models and come up with what will meet your goals. May find is a mix of both brands.

A 6 chnl amp can drive 2-3 pair of in-boats and a woofer. Wet Sounds offers 3 different models, JL offers 1 and its price and output are close to the entry level Wet Sounds.

I run an all JL system in my 2011 350 Dancer.
400/4 Amp for the cockpit speakers (JL 6.5s) and a 300/1 driving a single 10" sub. I also have the small 200/2 on the two swim platform speakers that are on a separate on/off switched circuit. My wife yells at me because it is LOUD and sounds great. You get what you pay for, and JL is top of the line. The amps wired easily into the existing sea ray wiring, and do not generate alot of heat. Be sure to follow the amp adjustments with the sine-wave signals if you are setting them up yourself. I can walk you through that when the time comes.

Your systems sounds awesome!! Can you post some pix of the swim platform speakers?

I just added two more Wet Sounds REVO 6 LED speakers down low.

Sorry about the late post, TALON. I was out of town. The hull on the 2011 dancer has speaker "mounts" molded into the transom. I replaced the factory Sony speakers with the JLs. The JL speaker fit right into the opening, but a couple of mounting holes had to be relocated. No big deal. The JL speakers come with mounting templates for the speaker's inner and outer diameters if you had to cut your own holes. Rotozip tools work great for this.

What did you use to cut the holes for the subs?

I used my Bosch Jig Saw. I didn't feel like spending $130.00 or more for a 10" whole saw.

I know, just what everyone loves, bringing up a 2+yr old thread. I'm looking for suggestions for adding a system to a 1996 450 SunDancer. Stereo is all original and I'd like to step it up quite a bit. Open to suggestions for number of speakers, location, amps, etc. Leaning towards a Fusion headhunt and JL Audio.

Would you carry the same dc powered system into the cabin or utilize the current home stereo type equipment that is already in there?

Thinking out loud, 2 speakers in stern area, 2 on arch and 2 in helm area? Maybe 2 on aft facing outward (must be able to turn these ones off/on separately from rest of system). Helm and cockpit area is pretty big so maybe 2 subs?

Interior....no idea yet. At least 4 speakers and 1 sub?

Thoughts?

on my 2000 380, I went with JL, because I have had good results in 2 previous boats. I have 2 at the helm, 4 in the arch and 2 in the rear facing the swim platform. Plenty loud. I have one 10” sub. I use a 5 channel Kicker marine amp, I think it’s rated at 800, tested at about 950 max.
The amp is unique because it has more of a band pass for the sub. When you use a infinite baffle sub, they struggle to handle the super low bass and the sound is dead. This allows setting a range of maybe 40-80 hz. With a true 5 channel, I can add the second sub in parallel to get to 2 ohms. If you have a 6 channel and bridge 2, you will have to series them to keep it at a safe impedance, which will mean less power to the subs....

I would install a marine system in the salon(cabin). I have not done it yet, but when I do, it will be completely separate

just my 2 cents, @Wylie_Tunes is the guy on here who turned me onto that amp, and I love it

I'd stick with the stock location and # of speakers myself. You'll probably have 4 full range 6.5" speakers and a 10" sub in the cockpit. With nice speakers and decent amp's that # is more than enough unless you're trying to be the loudest guy at the raft-off :):)

In the cabin...shoot, who listens to loud music when inside the cabin? :) I left the OEM junkers down below. Still work great for the whisper of music I need when making coffee in the AM.

In regards to the Fusion audio head units, can’t the Apollo units sync or link up together? Isn’t there a main head unit and then an option for a smaller remote head unit that you could zone out for your cabin or vise-a-versa? I’m not on the site, but I thought, besides wifi, that was a unique feature of the Apollo head units. Plus you can stick ANT wire free remotes (up to two per head unit) in convenient places on the boat to do basic functions.

The cheaper Fusion heads have the zone and ANT wireless remote capability as well. I've got an RA70 with zones and two of the wireless remotes connected.

The newer Fusion Appollo series has what they call "Party Bus", which is linked together head units via WiFi. Doesn't work very well and is slow and lagy from my experience.

That said, the head unit itself is awesome and supports many remotes and has multi zoned operation that works great. The RA770 is touch screen the RA670 has buttons and there is a newer white box WB670 version as well. I was an earlier adopter and have the 770 touch screen, but would have liked the white box version better with just remotes. They support N2K remotes as well as color ethernet ERX400 remotes as well. I have two of each type of remote and they work great. Two N2K remotes in the cockpit and ERX at the helm, the head unit in the salon and the 2nd ERX in the FWD stateroom. Would not trade this in for anything else. I also use external power amps for all zones with a 10" sub in the cockpit alone with four speakers on separate zones. I like to listen to the engines while cruising around, but passengers tend not to like that as much ...

The one piece of advice I can offer regarding the touch screen is, don't get that! I was pressing and scrolling too quickly and changed the language by accident and could not switch it back easily. It took about 30 min to figure out the right sequence of key presses to get English back. Yes pretty funny to read, but not so much when you've had a few ...

Ditto - the ANT's are great. I have one at the swim platform, although I can control the RA70 with my Garmin watch.;)
