I just purchased a house that has a dock but do not currently have a boat. I am considering a 240 Sundeck OB. At low tide the water depth is aprox. 2.5 feet deep. Do you think this is doable or should I consider a different boat. I know the previous owner had a 23 ft walk around he use to keep at the dock.
Thanks.

Should be fine as long as you don't have big waves or wakes that could slam the boat into the bottom.

Nothing too big. Wakes are bigger than the waves and we are pretty far off the channel so they are pretty tame by time they make it to the dock. Thanks for the quick response.

Are you looking at a new 240SD OB? If so, you should be fine as long as the OB is up...the draft with the motor up is 19" but it's 36" when the motor is down.

Motor up for sure. That is the reason I am looking at OBs. I'm just starting the process of looking and researching. The 240SD OB looks like it would fit our needs nicely. We are just looking for a day cruiser to go up and down the river and out to Long Island Sound and small enough that I can trailer it out myself at the end of the season. We never even considered getting a boat because we had the benefit of many friends with boats but now that we have a dock in the backyard I fee obligated. Just using it to launch kayaks seems like a waste.

Hey.. What's wrong with Kayaks ?... I am thinking of downsizing to kayaks.

With 30" you will be fine... if you can.. maybe consider a lift to keep the new boat out of the growth and the waves/wakes from the other boats.

I'd do a lift and remove the stress and worries.

You should be ok. If you wanted a lift, maybe a Jet Dock / drive on would work. A standard cradle or hydro-hoist lift probably won't work - our lake house had 3-4ft under the dock and the front of the lift (cradle style Doozie lift) sat on the bottom of the lake. Occasionally when the lake was down a bit, I had trouble getting the boat on/off the lift.

Thanks, Everybody. We don’t currently have power at the dock so if I had a lift it would likely be a JetDock. But the real issue I may have with putting in any type of lift is permitting. The dock is permitted but if I make any modifications I will need to get the plans permitted. The DEEP here in Connecticut is pretty strict. I would rather not engage them if at all possible.
