My 3 cylinder Westerbeke 4.5 BCGB is so quiet you barely hear it. The intermittent "swoosh" sound of the water being thrown out of the side exhaust port is the most noticable sound from our unit.:thumbsup:
Also, check to see if the rubber motor "isolators" (feet) are in good shape or if they are flattened to the shape of a round ball. They should be taller than they are wide and tapered wider to narrower (top to bottom). If they are shot, you may have bad vibrations transmitted througout the hull.:smt009

My Westerbeke is diesel but yes it enclosed with a soft side enclosure......

you can buy a sound shield from westerbeke. (my boat it was about 2200.00) I did'nt buy it because my genset is not loud, and as Frank W. pointed out to me the shield takes up a lot of room and hides a lot of "stuff" behind it that can then be ignored.
