Need referral for a good Westerbeke Generator Tech in Middle River Area Maryland

What's the problem? Might be a CSR known DIY fix.

If this is related to your other post, you need a generator mech. Westerbeke is a brand. You need a tech.

David, you wanna tell her or should I?

Tracy, I need a bit more info. Is this related to your other post? When was the last time the governor oil was checked?
Is there oil leaking from around the governor shaft? Have you check the belt tension on the shaft and pulley?

The issue with the Westerbeke Genset is that it cuts off when put under the start up load for the AC. It runs everything else just fine but, can't handle the startup amperage for the AC and it just dies. Oil level is good and recently changed. The genset seems to run well and smoothly and is putting out the 120V. I am fairly mechanical so would love to know about any known or DYI issues

Just realized you mentioned the governor oil, hmmm, didn't know about separate governor oil, guess it's time for a search for a service manual?

You won't find it in the manual, don't ask me why. They added a supplement to the manual in later years just for the governor.

Yours is is just like mine. Look just forward on the carb and you will see the governor. In the top of it you will find a square headed bolt. Remove the bolt and look and see if you have oil in there. Add oil till you see it at the bottom of the threads. Replace and start her up. Shut off the shore power and try the AC again. I will see if I can find the page of the manual and post it for you. Good luck

Tracy send me a email to dwna1a@aol.com, I will send you a manual. Look at page 39/40 it will show you the governor and its fill bolt.

I sent it this morning. Pages 34/35 are the governor maintenance. Before you spen the big bucks try this

If you just got this boat and haven't done any PM on the generator I would change the oil in the governor, don't just top it off.

There are two bolts a set screw. The bolt on top is the fill, the bolt on the bottom is the drain and the set screw is located on the side. With a small plastic water bottle positioned under the drain, remove the bottom bolt. Then the top bolt. Oil should now be running out of the bottom of the governor. If there is no oil running out of the bottom you might need to have the governor rebuilt as the lack of oil might have scored the shaft.

Once the oil has drained, remove the set screw on the side of the governor. Replace the drain bolt on the bottom and start filling the governor with oil until it starts to run out of the set screw on the side. This is the proper level of oil. Usually around 3 oz. Replace the set screw.

You should also have a meter for measuring Hertz(hz). Your generator should run at 60hz. If it's putting out more or less than 60hz you need to adjust the RPM of the unit. I got my meter at Home Depot for $130.
