Hello fellow Sea Ray owners! Panama Rob here with a question on my Genny.
Upon trying a test run I got zilch at the switch. Like the battery was gonzo.
I checked the designated battery and was getting a red error light on charger.
No problem. Change battery. It was 4 years old after all. After brand spanking new battery and error light gone...same problemo. Guessing it might be fuse on Generator itself but open to any input! 1998 330 Sundancer Gas..
Yes I did clean contact on battery and tighten.

Three things come to mind start fuse at the Genny, A start Relay, Or the start solenoid.I had to change the relay last summer hope this helps!
Also does it crank over at the switch on the Genny at all?

What kind of Gen.I know westerbeke, but size, gas or diesel. will help with answers. Is the boat new to you. Has it run ok before

The switch on the remote panel in the cabin has to be in the run position to get any cranking out of it.
There should be 3 fuses on the switchbox at the genset. If you can't hear the fuel pump priming when you push down the bypass switch, you are not getting 12v to the engine.

Yes it has run before. New boat to me and learning. Don't have model number but is gas. Pretty sure it is a fuse but again I was sure it was battery and was wrong.

Have not had change to get to it. Will this weekend to check fuses.
Thanks for reply! if it kicks over at the Genny side what will that tell me?

It's not the fuse! And what 370Dancer said the remote switch has to be in the on position for it to start with the switch on Genny

If it's original equipment on a 1997 33 Sundancer, you likely have a 4.5 or 7.0 BCG. If you have 1 air conditioner, probably a 4.5 They both operate exactly the same.
Nothing will make a sound until the RUN/Bypass switch is energized. Should be in the center position.

There is a remote bypass/run and start switches on the genny. Hold up the bypass switch, and then lift up the start switch. When you engage the bypass/run switch, you should hear a clicking sound. If that does not start the genny, your problems maybe harder to diagnose. There is a tech manual for 4.5 BCB on the Westerbeke website. Download the tech manual, and read the part on "what to do if the genny does not start". I attempted to post my manual in my comments, but the file was too large...

To be clear, in my setup, which is roughly the same vintage, the switches on the genny are not energized unless the Start/Stop switch is engaged in the cabin 12V switch panel.

Rob, there is a breaker mine is on the front right of the motor. Be sure it has not tripped. Pres it in and it will reset with a "click" sound.

Nothing will work if it has tripped
