west coast suggestions

As a native of Sarasota, and boater since before I could walk ( my dad was a boat builder and sail maker), it's a great middle point for all the places others have been talking about. I will add to this thread for you to look into SRQ for flights. Many new NE destinations have been recently added, and with low cost airlines.

HI 370Dancer, we are have a slip at marina Jacks and considering a trip to naples. ICW to Venice then out to the Gulf down to naples at 20 MPH. What should we figure for trip time?

Venice inlet to Naples inlet 4 hours or so.

Watch the Naples inlet closely.

After the Naples inlet plenty of water inside, half hour back north to Naples.

If you really want to run, I'd consider going North for 1/2 hour to Longboat Pass, and then set it and forget it. No bridges, speed zones, or traffic. I typically allow 5 hours to Naples with fair weather. I also noted you said MPH and not Knots. Even New Pass is doable on the right tide, and visibility. Not for the faint of heart, though. Or, get to know the captain of the fishing charter barge, and follow them out Big Pass when they run. ;-)

Thank you FootballFan! we need to hang sometime.

Love to connect Bob. We will be through the area latter part of May. I think we missed each other by a week in April. Our May trip is not settled yet - but will probably go as far south as Boca Grande. Will keep you posted.

We do too Bob! We are planning on departing this week for Chattanooga. looking for a 3 day window to cross the Gulf...

Carter - What is your crossing plan? Are you headed for upper FL coast or straight to Mobile?

Stay safe... (and awake). What is the estimated length of time for the crossing?

(I think your return trip to Chattanooga deserves its own thread)

Thanks but Ive had the pleasure of connecting with (two) to many sandbars not to take the safest routes for the remainder of my newbie year. Dockmaster warned me away from Longboat for awhile. Besides, lunch at the Crows Nest last week was phenomenal as was the view!

Mark,

We are thinking of Boca Grande Inlet straight to Mobile - 465 NM from Tarpon Point to Dog River. 54 hrs at 8.7 kts. We do 4 ON/4 OFF. Gulf looks pretty good this weekend, so maybe leaving Thurs or Fri...

Carter,

Have a good crossing, we will follow online.

That is a huge open water trip.

And it's a fun run. Seriously, if we were really in a hurry, we'd be in a jet.
Work your run so you spend a while at Pop's Sunset Grill on Saturday, especially if RPM is playing. I might be there lending a bit of Stratocaster to the mix. Not much dockage though. Easy enough to Uber over.
