Hi All

Am new to this site. Taking my 03 420 w/Cummins from the San Francisco Bay Area to San Diego. Any thoughts from those that have made the trip? Am thinking close to 30 hours running time and 25 GPH fuel burn. Boat has always been in fresh water. Are these good coastal cruisers? Lots of feedback requested. Planned Departure date is Oct 7th 2010

Initial plan is SF to Monterey. Monterey to Santa Barbara. SB to Catalina. Catalina to San Diego.

Thanks

I have made the trip many times in my boat. I have not made the trip in a DA, but I would imagine it would be fine with those motors. (I know many DA owners that have made the trip as small as a 360).

Funny timing, we are going to Monterey for 5 days on Oct 7, would be fun to meet up with you.

On the trip

SF to Monterey is pretty easy, I usually top off the fuel in Monterey and head to Morro. Depending on weather, I will fill up with fuel in Morro and either stay the night, or just a few hours if conditions look to get worse during the next day. Conception is of course the difficult area, just leave Morro as early as possible and round Conception in the AM. I then head to Ventura for fuel (usually the lowest price except for fish harbor in San Pedro). From Venture it's an easy shot to Newport (or any other harbor you want to stop at). If I am heading to Catalina, I go straight from Ventura. It's all "downhill" so the winds and swells should be from the stbd aft corner.

The two things I always do are never leave Monterey without full fuel, and same for Morro. My boat holds 350 gal. and I can run 250 nm pretty easy depending on conditions.

Let me know if you need any other info (ie: marinas/guest slips etc)

Wecome aboard, We also purchased a 2003 420 DA in Willow Bern , about 6 mo. ago. We trucked it down to San Diego. We are slipped in Harbor Island West.Where are you going to put your boat? Enjoy your adventure. Steve

Good luck on the trip. Some of us are running to Monterey on the 10th so we'll just miss you. Where did you pick up your boat?
