Weather Updates East Coast??

I feel for you guys - and keep up the good spirits!

anyway from a legal perspective - if a boat lands in someone's garden - does the salvage rules apply?

Right here where I am - I have all the boats coming in for the Abu Dhabi Formular 1 - and among those there are quite a few "not so nice/educated" drivers / so our floating pontoons are getting hit with wakes up to 6 feet.... And since it is a narrow channel with concrete walls on both sides - the wake/waves can keep pounding forwards and back for about 30 minutes AFTER an ID**TS has passed. (And I do think it requires talent to create a 6' wake)

Last year the "ID**TS broke one of the largest concrete floating piers we have have - just from the wake......

But my pain is <<<< 1% of the pain you guys are going through.

But as Jim Cramer said on Mad Money yesterday - "not forgetting the human lives Sandy has taken - this might help kickstart the American Economy" - so I hope Sea Ray is listening! If I was Sea Ray I would take the workforce who wants to "travel" and setup Mobile repair units (chargeable of course) - I think that could at least keep them in jobs for the next 6-8 months.

Does anyone have a "best way" to negotiate with insurance companies? Any pointers? Etc..... Thx

1. Don't sign anything from your insurance company
2. Get multiple estimates for work
3. Compare insurance offer with estimates
4. Work through discrepancies if they exist
5. Last resort is to lawyer up depending on claim value. I wouldn't bring this up until you exhaust all your other resources. Again, it depends on claim value, total loss, etc.

It may be difficult to get multiple estimates for work. My guess is it will be difficult to find people to do any work as most places will be overwhelmed with big projects.

.... One thing I noticed from some of the pictures - it doesn't seem to be very common to chain stands together up there....

You're 100% correct, CJ. It's rare to see it in these areas. There were number of reasons I felt more comfortable being in the water and this was one of them.

Weird but they typically only chain sailboats around here.

I don't agree with it personally.

Way to go Johnathan. !
Alex there are a lot of boats in my marina that where in the water at the time now they're on the bottom I don't know if any situation was better than the other. Maybe we got a little lucky ( you and I ) spoke to an old timer who says this is the 4th hurricane he left his boat in and never had trouble. you can't figure these things out. It's crazy

Hey Alex,

I wish I was in the water for this one.
No one here in water had any damage.

I have a question.

Boat was pulled for the winter and blocked in the boayard with no batteries or drain plug. The hurricane floated the boat and left it sitting sideways in a slip across two finger piers. The water went down and the piers collapsed.

The marina calls a company to remove this boat and set it back in a cradle along with 20 others.

Does the removal company have a right to claim salvage?

I went down to Key Harbor Marina in Waretown, NJ weds. Afternoon. The Marina employees turned me away at the gate for safety concerns, debris all over. He did say that only one boat was lost and some others sustained minor damage. They will not allow people onsite until Saturday. The marina owner stayed onsite as long as possible and had to be rescued by the NJSP. If the info is correct its nothing short of a miracle the, entire area looks like a war zone.

I live in Bucks County, PA still no electricity and of no cable and Internet. All you hear day and night is the drone of generators. Have most of the damage on the home front under control thanks to Stihl chainsaws. Well get through this a little scarred it takes more than that ***** Sandy to beat us down.

Good to hear everyone is OK. You can always replace a boat, but not family and friends.

I would expect that the boat repair shops will be very very busy and will have work throughout the rest of next year. Good luck with the insurance companies. Now is the time to see if the money you paid to them was worth it. Those with excellant customer service will add more customers after all the water clears.

Are there any members on here from Leonardo NJ.area ??

I haven't heard anything from my friend Capt.Wally. :smt021

Wayne, Saw shots from the Atlantic Highlands Municipal Marina which is right up the Bay..... It's a mess!!

Just got off the phone with the Insurance Company, they said a Adjuster will give us a Call in 24 to 48 hrs. !!!

Prayers for all affected. Tough to read through all the posts.

I would suggest we start a thread titled "Sandy Insurance and Salvage Questions and Answers".

Based on posts in recent months regarding insurance claims/salvage and the potential for issues, seems like a good idea for this group to help by pooling thought leadership in a common place....
