Boy, the weather looks pretty bad for boaters all weekend. Looks like it's going to be very windy through tomorrow. What do you guys think about making the trip from NYC to Sandy Hook Bay tomorrow (Sunday) in a 27' Sea Ray? Calling for 2-3 foot waves, but at 25 mph winds I'd expect the waves to be higher. Should I expect a lot of chop? Thoughts?

If you're asking....and you already know the reports.....you already have the answer. If it were me...I'd stay put
NWS has seas at 4 to 6 feet, with winds at 25 to 30kts gusting to 35. Winds out of the NW. They have also posted Gale Warnings for your area of travel

I'd say stay put. We did a run from the Hudson to Clinton, CT today (Long Island Sound) in the slop in our 33' Sundancer. We left crack of dawn because the wind forecast was going to gradually BUILD UP to what you will have to deal with most of the day tomorrow.

No fun. We had to tack the waves for the last hour to get into port, and that was at 1pm, it was still getting worse. Most of the run we were able to hug the coast and hide from the wind, not sure you can do that on your run. When we couldn't, "only" 4-5 foot waves but pretty chaotic so wet, pounding and a bit of washing machine.

We made it no problems, but we were in the Sound and in a bigger boat. Ant there were still a few "character building" moments.
