I have to ask a stupid question, well it seams stupid. I have a 215 express cruiser and I live in Florida with its surprise rain storms that often pop up and what do you guys do to protect your helm area with all your gauges, radios and such from the rainy weather while out on the water? Last thing I want to do is replace all helm electronics.

Thanks

I keep a towel over my dash when ever I'm not underway. There are lots of expensive things that I would like to keep going as long as I can. I just replaced my dash panels this spring. It's not a fun task.

Im considering making a custom dash cover from sunbrella that matches my Bimini.

A clear vinyl dash cover works for me, even though most of my stuff is under the windshield. And I have a Bimini to offer some minimum protection.

We cover ours up with numerous towels and on top of that I made some covers from some heavy thick navy material that matches the bimini. Even though we had a windshield cover made for when at the dock to keep the sun out, I still cover all of the helm and with our torential rain the towels still get damp:)

I also cover up mine with towels, especially if rain hits. A canvas helm cover is on the "to do" list. They were available from the factory for many of the later model cruisers and can be ordered from Great Lakes. Most would probably have to be custome made though.

Most any boat cover shop could make one up for you out of Sunbrella that would match your bimini top. It could snap to the top of the windshield and down at the bottom of your helm, or just from the front of the helm to the aft part of the helm. Either way would work to keep the rain off the instruments.

+1 on Towels. I went to Marshalls and found to inexpensive tan towels to match my dash. They cover from the compass to just over the throttles. One towel covers about 2/3 of my helm, so i put the second one on overlapping it. It's amazing how quickly they fade. The underside is its original color, and the exposed side is about 1/2 as dark as it was originally. That reminds me why i put them on! Try to save some UV on the electronics and dash panels as well keep the heat down on them too.

This came with my boat when I bought it from the previous owner. Same color as the bimini.

I have one similar to that
snaps down very securely and covers the wheel too

Thank you for all the replies. I have some good ideas now on how to protect the helm from the weather. Just got back from our first night trip on the water, its amazing how different the river is at night compared to day.

Thanks again.
