These days any time I hear about a store clerk defending him/herself it usually if followed by their firing the next day and sometimes a lawsuit from the robber. I understand the motive is try and promote the cooperation with the robber to get them out of the store but if someone chooses to defend themselves it should be their right without fear of repercussions. There is also the chance that them fighting back could get someone else hurt or killed. In relation to this story, I will go ahead and say I am about sick of hearing some of these liberal types going around saying that "the robbers are the real victims" because they were not given an opportunity to succeed and turned to crime out of desperation.

This reminds me of a couple years back a Pizza Hut was robbed here in Charlotte. After being beaten for the safe combo, one of the employees was taken to the bathroom where he was beat on some more for personal valuables. All this time, the driver had a concealed gun. Rather than shoot the robbers initially, he took all of that beating thinking they would just give up and leave. It was only after they started searching him for more valuables, he knew his gun would be exposed and he would probably be killed that he pulled his weapon and shot the robbers. He was immediately fired by Pizza Hut for carrying a weapon and he got quite a bit of public support behind him trying to persuade PH to hire him back. Never heard if Pizza Hut changed their decision.

The liberal left destroyed our county a few years ago. If that happened here, the clerk would go to jail for assault. If a person kicks down your front door and you are holding a shotgun, you will get nailed for brandishing a firearm. You now have to show "retreat" and if you don't, you are going to jail.

Many states have 'stand your ground' laws and/or 'Castle Doctrine' laws including my state of FL. Come in my house when you aren't invited, and you will not be walking out. This has been covered many times on CSR so no need to get into this debate again but check your local state laws as I just did for other states. I was surprised how many states have these laws and only 8 that don't, including DC and as Gary states, VA.

That's one good thing about Florida! Castle Doctrine and a no retreat policy! Threaten me from the street and step on my yard and POW...let alone kick in my door!! That applies to our boats, autos and RV's as well.

This happened in my town. This guy is now a local hero!
It also happened up in Asheville a couple months ago too. The clerk up there opened fire with a 44 and seriously wounded the dude. No charges filed on the store clerk! He was defending the property and it was all caught in video.

I was talking with the Senator for the Chambersburg area of PA and he said they had just passed a “protect your property” law up there.
