hi.

Whats a good wax to shine, protect, and keep our boat nice.??... would an auto wax be ok???

thanks....

No, use a cleaner/polishing compound/wax designed specifically for gel coat. Car paint (LPU clear coat) is a harder substance than gel coat and the formulations are different.

Thank you David,
would you please happen to have a name of a product we could use????

Hi Bill,
I would stay with a wax that is made for boats. Better UV protection, salt protection etc. There are a lot of good ones. A lot of guys are going toward the newer high tech stuff. Polishes, products with teflon, etc. There is a lot on this site about wax and finishes if you do a search on it.
I have been using 3M and Meguires products for years and am happy with the results.

Hi Bill,
Your welcome. I use the West Marine brand polishing wax. I have been happy with it. I don't remember the name off the top of my head.

If your boats gelcoat is heavily oxidized meaning there is no shine to it at all then go with the compound formulated for this. If all the gelcoat has is a light haze of oxidation but it is still pretty much shiny then use the Meguire's or the West Marine polishing wax.
